Off topic - Any Adobe Indesign experts here?

Hey Ben... I have a brochure with has text at 12pt/15leading aligned to a 15pt. baseline grid.

I have been fiddling with adding a "smaller" space above & below paragraphs to save space, either using "space before/after" or making my baseline grid 7.5 points instead of 15, with no "hard returns." I may not be describing it very clearly... any way to get text on a 15pt grid BUT with 7.5 space above and below?

Thanks!

Not sure I understand exactly.

The above and below spacing has no affect on the text inside the paragraph. So adding a 7.5 point to above or below spacing will give you 7.5 spacing even if your grid is 5 pt, 15 pt or 1000 pt.

If you want exact spacing with paragraphs, just do a single Enter key instead of of two enter keys.

This is paragraph 1. <Enter>

This is paragraph 2.

Then set spacing above or below to 7.5 point. this will give you 7.5 points between the paragraphs.

If the space between paragraphs is already double spaced and you dont want to manually remove the extra return keys, try this article:

I guess these 1/2 spaces may not line up on your baseline grid. In this case, try halving your baseline grids.

Can you make the paragraphs separate

text boxes that can be aligned how wished?

Sorry, I am more an after effects and muse guy.

I don't see how multiple text boxes would

complicate things in this case.

Guys... thanks!

Well, basically, my trouble was that did not have on "Type>Show hidden characters" so I could not see the stinking paragraph marks.

I had listings of university offices, etc. with phone numbers, and had hit return all throughout the text, so the paragraph "space after" option was adding a space after ALL of my hard returns, instead of where I really wanted visually.

Looks like I am stuck with a tiny 7.5point baseline grid, but now I have the space after each paragraph of 7.5pt, instead of a full 15pt. Space saved!

I'm making all these dumb gradients and doing text wraps on stuff, but this basic one was tough for some reason.

Yeah, the text box for each paragraph is another way to go...

Thanks for the input on a non-detailing item!
