Odd call today.

Well, I advertise at a quick lube place. Well actually 3. I know the owners of them, which is a good thing. Most of the time, I hang out at one of them and shoot the breeze. So I get a call today from the owner, asked if I could do some emergency work. I said sure,,,nothing going on today.
Story.......
About 2 months ago, a new employee was doing something....cleaning out an AC drain(?) on a ladies 04 Camry. Seems he was cleaning it out with a Sharpie marker, and the cap got lodged. Well after 2 months of running the AC, the water backed up into the passenger compartment. Seems the lady took it to the dealer and such, and finally called the Lube place about it. SO that is where I came in. I went to her home and proceeded to look things over. The car stunk. Very moist carpet. I started to use the shop vac, but soon realized it was not going to do squat. I removed the front drivers sode seat and all the plastic to pull the carpet up. Lets just say I removed about 1/3 gallon of water. Just from 1 front floor board. It took a long time to get the water out of the rubbery, spongy pad under the carpet. Then out came the hairdryer for about an hour to dry things up. I finished of by spraying the metal floorboard, mat, and carpet with an oder killer, and vac'd the rest of the car. I also shampoo'd the front carpet. I told her I got out about 95% of the water and that the carpet will be damp for another day or two in certain areas. Leave the windows down whenever she gets a chance, and to run her AC or heater on the floor when she is driving. I gave her a little spray bottle of the odor killer just in case, and told her if the smell is still there in 2 weeks, to give me a call, and I will come back and redo it.

Of course, the lube shop footed the bill. I only charged $30 though. I coulda charged more, but these guys get me work alot. They said if I have to go back, just let them know how much.

Yikes. As far as I know, there's noting in an A/C system that could be fixed with a Sharpie. Friends or not, I would have charged alot more than $30 for the thorough work you did to fix that "new employees" faux pas. Not your fault he was messing with things he has no business touching.

True, I was going to charge more. About $50.Oh well. It came out to an hour and a half...20 bucks an hour. As for the new employee who had done that, he has been terminated.

man thats nuts. $30 bukcs for all that. i would haev charged at least 100.(for a freind) thats an insane amout of work.. but i gues it can be filed as a sorta freebie.

Not really too much work. I unbolted the seat and moved it back, vac'd some water, ran the hair dryer mostly, sprayed some odor killer, and decided to vac the rest of the car. I was actually bored doing it. Holding the hair dryer for about an hour....LOL Started singing to myself....HAHAHA

I did prop the dryer up and aimed it at some spots (not too close) and walked over to straighten my trailer a bit. (No one was home, so it didn't look like I was slacking off)

It's good relations with a referral company.
Good job. You charged what you had to, instead of $100 or so.
Is the Sharpie an ASA certified tool?

Chris! You should have charged like 100! Im sure you did an excellent job though.

Greg

Chris it seems as you have been doing some charity work. I can use some charity if your ever up in my neck of the woods. HAHAHAAH

I swear that the sponges under the carpet are the worlds most water absorbing sponges.
