NYC blasts

The more I think about this, the more in awe I am of this guy`s stupidity. A typical act of terrorism on a city street is one thing. Despicable, but that`s what these scumbags do. But attacking a USMC event? That is just flat out stupid. It`s not bold or ballsy, it`s just stupid.

In addition to Marines being elite killers, theres a bond and brotherhood to them that this guy clearly doesn`t understand. Many Marines, while they love their country and their duty to protect it, they simultaneously have a certain contempt for society and civilians in general. Words like nasty and dirty are pretty typically used to describe the average civilian. But like I said, they love their country and they take their duty very seriously. Beyond that, they love the Corps and what it means to be a Marine.

With all that established, this guy not only attacked the country they defend, but attacked the very brotherhood they love above all else. Even the most sympathetic person in the world can try to rationalize and explain the motive and purpose as bold or whatever, but this is just flat out one of the dumbest things I`ve ever seen a criminal do.

I can`t wrap my head around it. I don`t think the guy had any understanding of what he was actually doing.

I laugh when people say our involvement in Iraq destabilized the Middle East. Since the beginning of time, the Middle East has been a model of instability. It has nothing to do with us being there or not.

I have to tell you guys - somehow my wires got crossed. Up until reading this post - I thought twenty some people died from this act of terrorism. I`m glad that is not the case, I must have read an early report that was wrong.

I went through the whole weekend wondering why more wasn`t being made of it - I guess it was because nobody died?

All I can say is desperate times call for desperate measures. The United States has sidestepped the Constitution and Bill of Rights before to deal with our enemies.

The question is - do we have the courage to do it now?

The answer is probably not.

I couldn`t care less about offending people, but I *DO* care about depriving US Citizens of their Constitutional Rights without Due Process.

IMO most Slippery Slope arguments are nonsense, but I draw the line at suspending the Constitution without Due Process, even for "just some risky minority", even just "temporarily". Guess it`s a matter of "which risk matters more to you", and I`ll take my chances on my side of the fence. Without the guarantees under the Constitution, IMO this just wouldn`t be the USA.

I know this isn`t Weimar Germany, but the "it can`t happen here" argument always seems reasonable until things go sideways. Guess I`ve just known too many people who suffered from losing their Rights...

Does anybody *really* think it was OK to inter Japanese Americans during WWII? If you do, I bet you`ve never talked with anybody who went through it.

"If on the No-Fly List you can`t own a gun" sounds reasonable, right? Well, with a little effort you can get most anybody on that list, and once somebody`s on it they don`t come off. Doesn`t matter... unless it happens to you. Wonder how Hillary feels about whom the 2nd Amendment oughta apply to.. might not be you or me.

Think it`s OK to drone-strike a US citizen without Due Process of Law? Hey, it`s some radicalized terrorist so who cares, right? "The greater good" and all that...What`s the big deal about some extra-judicial killings, works fine in Central America...or does it?

How does it go?...Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Libery. No free luch, it`s a dangerous world.
