NXT streaking

Anyone have suggestions on how to apply NXT without so much "streaking"? It seems to leave an oily residue that even when removing is just hard to get off completely. I tried it on my black Porsche, and saw it when doing a '96 red Mustang convert. I tried hand applying on the Porsche, then switched to the orbital and didn't even bother hand applying on the 'Stang.

perhaps you are applying too much? Before my autopia days, I used to get streaking which later I found out was due to applying too much product.

It's the nature of the beast with most products actually. Until the product is cured or set properly then you will get streaks. They stop happening after a day or so. In the hot weather on black cars I usually suggest that they don't touch the paint for at least a day. Anything will streak on a hot surface, but you will see the streaks just that much better on black. It isn't anything you are necessarily doing wrong, although using too much product or buffing it off with towels that are dirty are elements that can contribute to the problem. Try adjusting your process a bit and see if that helps. I usually use two or three microfibers to buff out a car just to make sure that I'm always using a clean one that isn't going to smear the product around instead of buffing it off.

I detail inside the garage, and the car is always cool to the touch when I use product. I do tend to use new cloths frequently; changing when I can tell there is too much product on the cloth to be useful anymore.

I do find the QD spray helps get rid of the "streaking"; hopefully without harming my final result.

try wiping slower, but other than that there is nothing you can do.

Sometimes if you go over a streak with more NXT and wait to buff it off later, the streaks disappear.

maybe streak isn't the right term. It looks like the product got blotchy- kind alike excess oil on concrete. Hopefully I'm describing it correctly. I should say also, the NXT is going on top of M83.

I noticed the same thing when using NXT this past weekend right after using the DC 3-step system(NXT being the 3rd step). I was doing a black Jeep Cherokee and it was doing it kinda bad. Im fairly sure that means you didnt let it haze long enough b/c it only did it where I had waxed last. It didnt do it where I started waxing. I waxed the entire jeep then went back where I started waxing and started removing the wax.

I would say that 'blotchy' describes it very well.

If we waited a few minutes then went over it again they came right out..

We were also in a garage so the sun wasn't a problem although it was very humid that day. If I had to guess, I would say the humidity had something to do with it. We had a dehumidifier in the garage but I forgot to turn it on the night before..

I had never noticed this problem on my Blue Jeep..

Hope that helps some..

I had the same problem with Riwax TItan Wax. No way to remove it the same day, but nex day it was gone like it was never there. give it time to set properly

With NXT, I usually apply a thin coat and I let it sit on the car for a while before I remove it. I usually let it sit longer than it really needs to.

I find NXT to be blotchy as well. Excellent slickness initially and it dramatically deepens and darkens dark paints. But after a few washes and a few weeks it loses alot of its luster. You could try a second coat a day later, but for me I'm going back to good ol #26.

I top NXT with #26 and love the finish/feel it gives.. It makes me want to take a bite right outta the paint. :D

Seems to last a good while too.. With school, sometimes I must go a good 3months without a good polish/wax and it seems to hold up great.. If I can, I usually wax it at least once a month..

Thanks. I'e got M26 in the cabinet too, so I may top NXT with it as suggested. No issue putting it right over M83, is there?

Should be just fine.. You may noticed a deeper shine if you put a good polish on there first, but I take it youve already put NXt on so topping that with #26 would work out just fine. :)

WOM, you're experienceing an old NXT & #21 issue. Earlier batches were unstable and they can oiling out of the emulsion. That causes a smeary, cloudy finish and you can probably slightly move these clouds as you wipe with your towel. Smearing is

usually caused by over deposition of higher viscosity active ingredients. The smeary, oily-looking patches can be reduced by 1.) using less product, 2.) leaving the NXT on significantly longer (at least an hour), but even this won't solve the problem completely.

If you are still dissatisfied, Meguiar's will replace your bottle with a new one. BTW, I'd use the NXT paste which doesn't have the mentioned issues and lasts longer.

Thanks Bence. The bottles are newly purchased, but hopefully newly put on the shelves too. I'm hoping it's just a matter of too much product and not enough setup time. I just have to plan for more finishing time; maybe do windows while I wait.

I have some of the Megs glaze also. That work in this situation?

I use the NXT spray wax and I too notice how it's oily and streaks as well. For me I've just waited about an hour in the garage and put on another coat and it resolves it. However, I'm not using it on top of anything else (but will be soon as I have my PC now).

Do you happen to notice the slickness goes away fairly quickly? Even if I place two coats it seems to go away in a day or two. I will agree it makes black paint deeper though...Go fig.

One thing I would make sure you do with any liquid is to vigorously shake the bottle before you apply to ensure that the contents are well mixed before applying.

I have found with NXT that if you let it sit for a while after applying (in the shade) that it will reduce the streaking that can occur. What is happening is that it is not fully cured when you wipe it off and you are basically spreading it around again. I generally let it sit for half an hour or more depending on the humidity before I wipe it off.

It can be finicky but I have always gotten pretty good results with it...

It would of been best to put that on before you put the NXT on.. I would go ahead and top it with #26 if you want and call it a day. :xyxthumbs
