NXT over #7???

Can I use NXT over #7? I know NXT has some cleaners in it and am wondering if this may remove the glaze. It will be put onto a 96 Miata with single stage red paint. Thanks....

Yes this is a very common combination. NXT will not completely remove #7. The cleaners are very mild (so mild that they're mainly there for proper bonding reasons). Good luck.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Another ?, when applying #7 with PC, what pad to use (polishing or finishing) and what speed? Same question for the NXT too. (I'm new to the PC so far.)

For #7 I'd say work it in on 4-5 with a polishing pad, but I'm only going by what I've read. It's mostly oils, and the more you work it in, the better. I use NXT on 4 with a finishing pad.

how much product do you apply to the pads? I have a feeling I may be using too much, but I am unsure. I usually do a ring of product along the outside of the pad, too much maybe???

Thats what I do, maybe a little less if I notice the pad starting to fill up. It all depends on the product, some gum up the pads quicker then others. Some products I use, I found if you apply no pressure at all other than the weight of the PC or less at @ speed 5 the product forces itself so to speak out towards the edge of the pad thus despensing that extra product out on your surface. :nixweiss

Here are my results with my process:

The process:

"Wash" with Mother's California Gold Showtime Instant Detailer (Car was clean, just a little dusty)

Apply by hand Meguiar's NXT (Thin Coat)

Apply by hand Meguiar's #7 (Very Thin Coat)

Apply by hand P21S (Guess...Thin Coat)

And the results are impressive:

so you are doing NXT before #7? I had thought you were supposed to do it the other way around.....maybe I just haven't learned enough yet???

Fritchard,

Because NXT has mild cleaning abilities, I used it as the foundation! Otherwise I think it might clean off some of the #7!

NXT gives me the depth to the black, and the glaze and P21S gives me the wet look I desire!

I personally feel that NXT is better under #7 and then topped with something else!

But in your case as you only want to use NXT & #7..you will need to do #7 first and then protect it with NXT! Otherwise the #7 will diminish quickly!

Fritchard,

Here is #7 topped with Meguiar's Gold Class Wax on Red!

I did this car and the owner wanted a nice wet look!

It's a combo I like on Red Cars!

Wow! That red looks deep and wet, very good! I may try the #7 then NXT soon as I also have a red car and that may be the look I am going for. Again thanks for all the help f1guy68!

Thats my car there with #7 topped with NXT.. It's all I've used so far. I want to try something like #26 or P21S over it to see how that will look though.

I just did my truck(black) the other day with DACP, #7, and NXT. Waited a day then topped with Gold Class Carnuaba and it looks great. Can't figure out how to post pics here though.
