NXT 2.0 over Collinite 845?

I've had a couple coats NXT and a couple of 845 on my Murano throughout the winter. I'm thinking of adding a layer of NXT this weekend to get some of the 'wet' look back now that the warmer weather is approaching.

What do you guys think?

Or should i just put another coat of 845 on? I want the wettest, deepest shine.

thanks

Well you can always top one with the other. I suppose it depends on the color of your vehicle as well. Some think that 845 looks great and others dont. I honestly have been very impressed with nxt.

You still have at least 6 weeks more of winter,go with the 845 and in the spring start all over with NXT... or at least that is what I would do

First off you want the best deepest look for your car and a simple wax job will not do that.

First at least wash and clay the car at the very least.

Then one thing to remember is that the NXT has some cleaning agents in it that will diminish if not remove the waxes underneith so I would not use NXT as a topper for a second coat over anything else ever.

If it were me, I'd wash, clay then NXT, let it cure for 18 hours then a coat of Collinite.:2thumbs:

I guess we have to ask how dirty the surface is.

I think I'd just do a single coat of the NXT (slight cleaning ability) and worry about a complete makeover in 6 weeks, certainly not yet. It's only March.

If you want a quik fix, do you have something like OCW or the Duragloss equivalent? That would be by far the fastest thrill.

i use 845 on all of my vehicles. the C6 and Avalanche get NXT over the 845 and they look look great. my DD CTS does not get anything but the 845. FYI, the C6 and Avey are white and the CTS is white diamond.

I was concerned the NXT would remove some or all of the 845 if applied over top?

I am thinking of just misting it down with Megs Ultimate Detailer for now.

no way. as long as the 845 was properly bonded. NXT does not have sufficent "cleaners" to remove the 845.

That'd be my guess as well. Note that the NXT is designed to work over top of Meguiar's "pure polishes"; if it won't strip *those* I wouldn't expect it to strip 845 (assuming the 845 is in decent shape).

I *do* wonder if the NXT will give a big boost in the looks though, but as noted, it's your vehicle and you know what you like it to look like.

That is a good point, though I have wondered about NXT's interaction with Megs' pure polishes. Accumulator, have you ever tried NXT over one of the pure polishes? Can you discern a difference?

On several occasions both Mike Pennington and Mike Phillips have stated on MOL that NXT's cleaners are not strong enough to completely remove a previously applied and cured layer of wax. I do not know if anyone has conducted scientific experimentation to decide this question, one way or the other; but until such evidence is brought forward, I'm happy to trust the judgment of the Mikes. So like Accumulator, I do not imagine that NXT will remove a cured coat of 845.

Nah, the *only* time I've used NXT was on a pal's Jag showcar (he insisted I use that for the LSP).

I applied it after polishing with #80...if it stripped off any of the (minimal) stuff that #80 leaves behind I sure couldn't notice it.

While I'm cynical enough to see why a manufacturer would say it's OK to use a combo where the LSP in fact strips off penultimate products, I *REALLY* don't think that's the case here and I've never heard anybody say that it happens with NXT (though I can also imagine why people might not want to say/believe it even if it does happen).

But I've found it takes a *little* doing to cut through healthy applications of 845 (easier than with 476S but still...). Try removing healthy 845 with KAIO some time; it'll happen but not with just a quick W-O-W-O.

OTOH, note all the "healthy"/etc. disclaimers I keep throwing in ;) Dunno how healthy 93zder's 845 is after a few months of winter weather. *Mine* is still fine on the Yukon, but hey :nixweiss

I've never used NXT, so I can't say, but I can tell you that, on a properly clayed, polished, and buffed surface, 845 can look as good, if not better, than many premium/boutique waxes, and last much, much, longer. That's been my experience, anyway. But, you are right, if you just throw a coat of 845 on a non prepped surface, the results will be less than stellar.

When i applied the 845, i already had 2 layers of NXT and 2-3 of Mothers Pure Carnauba (i didn't think i would get the Collonite in time before the bad weather hit so i wanted to add something). Prior to these i completely clayed and cleaned the paint. I then received the Collinite in the mail and weather was good so i proceeded to add 2 light coats of 845. I did hesitate to apply the 845 right over top, so i spoke to Collonite and they said it was no problem - there would be plenty of adhesion.

To this day it still beads like mad!! Needless to say i am very happy with the 845!! :xyxthumbs

thanks

how about 845 over NXT 2.0? Will the 845 protect the NXT from regular wear and tear, thereby prolonging the aesthetic effect of NXT? From what I read, 845 gives candy like shine while NXT adds depth to the color. It should be a good combo and more importantly, durable.

In my limited experience, the paint takes on the "look" of the last applied LSP. If you apply 845 over NXT, it will look like 845 (I think).

I personally would not describe 845's look as "candy like." I'm not sure what words would accurately describe 845--bright? glossy? wet? I'm not very good at describing the nuances of LSPs. Whatever words you choose, 845 bestows a great look. You may well decide you like it as much as NXT (assuming you can even discern a difference).

If you want to maintain NXT, you might consider applying Ultimate Quik Wax after every wash or every other wash or whenever you just feel like the paint needs a gloss boost.

Thanks for the reply mate. I just discovered that i can buy 845 here in Manila. I just don't want to waste my NXT. With your input, I'll use all of my Megs LSP and invest in Collinite and Carlack68. =)
