Nuba' differential questions!

DEEP & WET
Would someone mind covering the differences b/w carnauba (sp?) waxes.

I would specifically like some details about the differences b/w:

1. #26 (since I now have two cans)

2. Natty's (since I would like to top my EX with it)

3. Souvran (b/c I want some when I can afford it)

What allows 1 wax to be better than the other?

What allows Souveran to be so much better than Natty's or #26?

And to the lay person driving down the road, Will they be able to tell the difference b/w Souveran, Natty's or 26 or will they drool regardless because they look so good?

In theory, the difference between more expensive carnuaba waxes and lesser expensive ones could be in the quality of the ingredients and the manufacturing process. This could very well be the reason why Souveran stands out a little above the rest. As for the layman's ability to tell the dfifference? Probably very unlikely. Natty's, S100, #16, #26 and others will leave a finish that will be breathtaking to most if the proper prep was done before hand.:D

Which waxes:

1: Give the best depth to the finish?

2: Are the most reflective?

3: Give the best "wet look?"

The question is pertaining to a silver car

IMO, Souveran & Meg's #26 on dark colored paints produce a deep, wetlook. Meg's # 26 contains more oils & silicones ( & solvents ) than the Souveran & Nattys. You've mentioned 3 terrific carnaubas that will produce awe inspiring results as LSP's. Once again, looks are sticly subjective. Do yourself a favor & try the Souveran. Simply amazing. ( BTW, Souveran, Meg's #26 & P21S are my favorite carnaubas. )

I agree with BlkTac. You're comparing 3 really great looking (aka drool worthy with the right prep) carnaubas, so while you may be able to tell the difference, and Autopians may be able to tell the difference, I doubt that the other 99.9% of the population will.

It's pretty much up to you. Try 'em and see what you like best. In the end, what matters most is that when you see your car you're drooling.

BlkTac, what are the implications of this:

Meg's # 26 contains more oils & silicones ( & solvents ) than the Souveran & Nattys.

Both visually and as it relates to the other products you use under it,

I would've concluded that Souveran contains more oils, but less silicones, if any.

The oils in Souveran contribute to it's incredible depth and wetness, as one would expect.

What makes a Carnauba wax stand out from the others, as was suggested they can only be as good as their ingredients.

Wax should be as clear as possible, which excludes bees wax as it occludes (yellows) this has very little to do with the colour but more its â€Ëœchemicalâ€â„¢ make-up

Carnauba wax comes in grades (this usually starts a â€Ëœflame warâ€â„¢ but anyway) #1 Yellow is further refined to produce a very clear wax (Souveran, P21S, Zymol to name a few).

A disclaimer- If you apply a product over a surface that is dirty or one that has surface imperfections a wax or sealant will not disguise it, only highlight them.

A wax or sealant can only reflect what is underneath it, so a clean, level well-prepared surface is the most important consideration (85% of a surfaces reflectivity is its preparation) along with applied product clarity.

I must admit, when it comes to the pure chemistry of carnauba waxes & synthetic sealants.........I'd flunk "Chemistry 101" (lol) I'll leave that to the likes of TOGWT, Scottwax, Accumulator & BlkZ28Conv! ( just to name a few ) In regards to the Meg's #26, I feel that the quality & content of the carnauba used is of lesser quality & content when compared to the Souveran. ( thus, the price difference ) When it comes to the oils & silicones, I simply based my opinion on how the wax feels when rubbed between your thumb and fingers. ( not to mention the color/ appearance of both these beauties in the can ) The #26 (paste not the liquid ) feels more oily to me. That's not to say it's a bad thing, by the way. I do feel that it's the oils that nourish the paint while producing that deep, wet, liquid shimmer that we all love in conjunction with the carnauba. ( the trait that sets carnaubas apart from most synthetics ) I use carnaubas in one of two ways. ( both after proper prep, ofcourse ) When I'm in "Carnauba Mode" I layer 3 to 5 layers, over a 3 to 5 day period of time, of my favorite carnauba wax or combos of my favorites. *Souveran (Paste), P21S, Meg's #26 (Paste) & Trade Secret*. I then maintain the finish by adding what I call "maintenance coats" every 2 to 3 weeks.Durability of carnaubas are never an issue for me. When I'm using 1 of my favorite synthetic sealants ( Klasse Twins,WG,EX w/Carnauba & UPP ) I top those sealants with 1 of my favorite carnaubas. Over many years I have found that Souveran gives me the deepest, wettest , most liquid look on Indigo blue, Dark Emerald Pearl and Black Sand Pearl paint. ( My new, 05 Tacoma is......you guessed it.......Black Sand Pearl!!! woo hoo! ) The Meg's #26 gives a nice deep wet look with slightly less dramatic depth than the Souveran. ( just my opinion ) The P21s & Trade Secret seem a little more reflective, yet not as deep. THEY ALL PRODUCE TERRIFIC RESULTS! For the record.....I've currently got Z5 x 3 & Z2Pro x 3 topped with Z8 on my truck at the moment. All this carnauba talk is sending me into a "Carnauba Craze"!:buffing: :waxing:

Sorry about the previous rant. I never want to hijack a thread! But I must include the Zaino products when talking about my favorite Synthetic products. ( Zaino is my top rated synthetic, by the way! )

Well, If indeed #26 produces jaw dropping results only slightly inferior to that of Souveran, I think I will stick with it for awhile. Besides, I got a great deal thanks to AZ. When the bank account allows, I would love to try some Souveran. Maybe I will save Souveran for my brand new 2010 vette. It's black of course!

BTW, how do these steps look:

1. QEW

2. Clay

3. SSR 2.5 orange pad

4. Maybe SSR 1 maybe not

5. AIO

6. SG x 2

7. EX

8. #26

The only reason I'm considering the SG is for durability purposes. I would love to simply be able to wash and reapply #26 every month for about 6 months and Repeat the entire process again in 6 months. What do ya think?

Autopia has had a great sale on the Souveran. $48.00 plus the additional Autopian discount brought the Souveran down to $42.76 + shipping. Great Price! I just had to order somemore!

Ouuuuhhhh! Good idea. NOw all I have to do is talk my wife into letting be spend $50 on a jar of slippery stuff. You should have seen her face when I walked in the door yesterday with all my goodies from AZ. She looked pissed until I told her I spent $6.24 on all of it. BTW, did you look at my prep on the first page. Would like some opinions!

JJ

Yeah, I bought her one of those Gazelle exercise thingies yesterday too. We are now sitting around stiff as a board and sore as hell! I can hardly walk today!

JJ

You keep posting before I get through editing. Did you see my prep. plan on the bottom of the first page? I Would like some opinions.

JJ

I really don't think you need to go with step#7. I see no need to go with the EX over the Klasse AIO & SG. I'd go with the SSR 2.5,SSR1,AIO x1 then SG x 2 and top that with #26. I admit that it's a long process ( 24 hours between coats of Klasse SG ) but it's worth it. Maintain that "recipe" with regular washings & a quality quick detailing spray. I use the Sonus carnauba spritz and the Pinnacle Crystal Mist to QD a carnauba. I'd rub another coat of the Meg's #26 on your baby every 3 weeks or so. Your wife will thinks you're crazy ( and so won't you neighbors ) but your paint will look amazing!
