nu finish?

I tried the search function... but the word "nu" is too short so it wont work.

So, im thinking about using Nu Finish car polish and then a strait wax on my moms car. The finish on the car is not even close to being a show car finish. It looks decent, but needs some work to look better.

Ive heard good things about Nu Finish, but I was wondering what everyone here thought about it before I went out and tried it.

are you serious...

once you get the bottle and open it up, the fumes are so strong it will make you want to pass out. that and it basically melts any plastic you come in contact with.

If you want something local go with mother's 3 step wax or Meguire's Deep Crystal Polish, then Meg's #7 glaze, followed by #26 or #20 waxes

thanks for the help, I dont think ill be getting this product. Its also kinda sketchy that they dont have contact information anywhere.

While I'd never use NuFinish on body pant, I keep a bottle around for occasional wheel cleaning. No worries about it staining trim down on the wheels, and every once in a while, I like to take something "solventy" with some cleaning abilities to the wheels.

Did that today as a matter of fact, and it really brought the metallic sparkle back to my wheels. Another good product for this type of wheel cleaning is Klasse All-In-One, but since NuFinish is pretty cheap, I keep the AIO for body paint.

Keep in mind you can't put #20 over #7, it wont bond. #20 is Meguiars Polymer Sealant.

If I don't remember wrong, Mike Phillips said you can put #20 over #7.

Mosca already did that, I hope some pros will chime in on this.

I don't use Meg products. Plenty of other options to Barry M.'s arrogancy...

Just my view. Mike Phillips may be the perfect buffer, we'll see.

Edit: "perfect buffer" was an unintended pun! What I meant was he may well be an effective public relations figure...

I don't think that was neccisary...

Anywho, good info about the #7 and the #20, definately something I didnt know...

So is #20 a pure polymer then?

I've used a lot of Nu Finish in my life, and I'm still alive, and my cars still have paint on them. That being said, Nu Finish isn't bad, but why use it when there are other products that are better? It's about as solventy as Medallion Paint Cleaner (red label). Meg's #20, Meg's Medallion Protectant (green label), Klasse, all are gentler and look better.

As far as "arrogance"; I don't know Barry Meguiar from the guy who sang "Eve of Destruction", but I'm glad there isn't a litmus test for personality that we use when choosing products. How many of us choose Linus Torvalds over Steven Jobs and Bill Gates? Raise your hands, please, then lower them and enter your command line prompt.

ANY Meguiar's final product (so far) can be used over top of ANY of their glazes. I'll testify that it looks GREAT.

Last I heard (Friday afternoon), #20 is a synthetic wax, but that was from a tech-line guy, TJ. According to Meguiar's Online, it is "A unique blend of polymers, resins, silicones and imported waxes".

Cool....I may just try that. I love how the car looks after all the rich polishes, but I hate to strip all the oils off for the polymer.

Can #20 be layered?

Can #20 be layered? Some say, put on two coats, 24 hours between each, and that's all,due to the cleaning ability of 20(to help it bond). Well, I have applied it 4 times, a day between each application. I stopped at 4 because I didn't see any more improvement in the finish. I don't know if I have 4 layers on it, but I reapplied it till it would do no more for the appearance. I do know that it is covered well with 20. To me it's like a scoop or two of icecream(or whatever), two scoops are good, and probably all that you need, but four is better....
