now that #16 is gone, i went to the local auto speed shop and noticed the following waxes. what do you detailers suggest or reccomend? would you buy these? why and why not?

MOTHERS CARNAUBA CLEANER WAX.

MOTHERS CALIFORNIA GOLD.

3-M PERFECT IT WAX.

PRO by BAF in a gold can.

MEGUIARS HI TECH MIRROR GLAZE YELLOW WAX.........................thanx for the input

I contacted Meguiar's recently about the issue of #16 being discontinued.

They recommended #26 (Hi-tech yellow) as being a suitable replacement to #16. #26, in some respects, yields better results on certain finishes. I love the beading and wetness of #16, but at the same time the depth and warmth of #26 can't be beat on a black vehicle!

Another wax that I have experience with it Mother's California Gold. It's a very good wax that can be bought OTC. The smell is absolutely out of this world also, and it is one of the best smelling waxes next to Pinnacle Souveran. It provides a balance in both gloss and wetness to the finish.

Couple Suggestions:

1. Check some recent threads about #16...its still out there.

2. Go to the sample exchange thread and see who is offering some for trade or sale. You should be able to pick up at least 1/2 a can to try out.

3. As for what is available OTC, you may want to try NXT.

Out of those choices, I'd go with #26 yellow wax as a replacement for #16.

I'd recommend you check out Nattys too.

And yes, #16 is still available in several places.

You can still fine Megs #16 at Pakshak.com.

Once it is sold out however I would recommend trying out some Collinite 476 or FinishKare Pink wax, they are the closest comparable products that I can think of. If you give the FK1 Pink a try I think you'll be impressed.

The closest substitute is #26 aka MEGUIARS HI TECH MIRROR GLAZE YELLOW WAX.

I was able to pick up 3 x #26 from AutoZone for $0.99! :woot:

Blitz is slightly more expensive than Mother's, plus it is not readily found in most retail stores. Therefore, your best option would be to order it online.

Comparing Blitz to Mother's, I would say that you can't go wrong with either one. They both are high-quality waxes. Blitz has a slightly better durability factor, as it is what most people refer to as a "hard wax". It is an excellent wax that provides great depth, shine, and gloss. Mother's on the other hand, is a slightly softer wax, and it also seems to add depth with some wetness to the finish. If smell is a factor, then you can't go wrong with Mother's...it makes the experience very enjoyable!

The deciding factor is whether or not you choose to order your products online. I would say that if you don't mind going online, then your best bet would be Blitz. However, I still wouldn't pass up Mother's if it is available at a store around you.

Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback. Will give the CG a try. The only other product that has had my interest is the MG nxt. I have used the old MG poly sealant from the 1980 vintage and remember liking it alot.

waxnbuff, I've only had experience with #16, #26, Mothers CG and Mothers Cleaner Wax from your list.

#16 is great for all colours but seems to be at its best on lighter colours as its gives a great shine and wetness. #26 creates less shine and more depth, and excels on dark colours. Mothers CG is more balanced and creates a look half-way between the two.

So if your looking for a look similar to #16, then Mothers CG is the closest. Durability is also excellent. And, oh yeah, the smell! Yum!

Clearkote's Carnauba Moose....used it for the first time on my wifes gray RX330 about 2 months ago and it's still beading the same as it did the day I used it. Good look too, deep and wet.

Agreed. Easy to use too.

Thanks :o Locally speaking as well, if you have a West Marine near you, RUN there, boating supply stores can be surprisingly great resources for top notch products. Just got Collinite Insulator wax and Amazing Roll Off in two of these kinds of stores recently. Megs polishing and cutting pads can often be had there too.

I got to 3rd the CMW. I used it this week, over AIO. I have used it several times, but it has been a while, cause I have been using Natty's but the CMW is EASY to use!!! Great results too.

I've used all the ones you mentioned except Pro by BAF.

Mother's Carnauba Cleaner Wax is different in the sense that it has cleaners in it, while the rest don't. Not sure if you polish your car on a regular basis. If you don't, this is the one you should use. Mother's California Gold is nice, but it didn't feel all that slick to me. The 3M has a really nice look. It makes the paint look a little darker. Durability has been mediocre. It lasted less than a month for me. IMO, if you polish your paint, the Hi Tech Yellow Wax is your best bet. It gives your car a nice warm glow, is not overly reflective and is very durable for a carnauba. It was still beading strong on my wife's car after five weeks.

Another vote for Blitz.

As far as I am aware if there comes a time when #16 is no longer available in the USA it will still be available in Europe.
