1. This one took about 5.5 hours to do, which seems like alot for such a small car. Luckily the road tar was minimal, but I had to deal with many bugs, stains and the rims had the familiar baked on brake dust. The wheel wells and door jams were muddy, as was the interior carpets / mats. The interior panels were "soiled" and every surface was dusty and dirty. The overall condition of the paint was rough to the touch, lacked any depth and didnt bead at all.

2. The specific areas of challenge were the paint and the carpet. THe paint had no glass or depth to speak of and was very rough to the touch. THere were also many bugs splattered over the car. THe carpets had the optional mud / dirt / leaves installed and ground into the carpets

3. My steps were:

engine- 2x washing with 2:1 simple Green, dress with No Touch tire care

tires / wheel wells- Mothers tire cleaner, Meg's Endurance gloss gell dressing x2 (wells dressed with Armor All)

wheels- Mothers wheel cleaner x3, scrubbed with various brushes up to a brass bristle brus in crevices

Pre-treat- Sprayed with 10:1 solution of APC+ (removed alot of dirt and 95% od bugs, etc)

wash- NXT wash

polish 1- DACP with yellow pad on speed 6 by PC

polish 2- NXT with white pad on speed 5 by PC

LSP- Megs #16 wax with grey pad on speed 3 by PC, removed by hand with MF

glass- ext= #16, int=Invisible Glass

carpet- Woolite / water mix by hand with stiff brush, APC+ to treat bad stains

vinyl- same as capet, 303 protectant

4. What I learned on this detail is that VW paint isnt as hard as Audi apint and I was able to work it by PC and cutting pad with the DACP. I also learned that #16, while producing a salad oil type of look tends to mute the metallic a little bit.

It was very overcast when I did this car so pics dont show the true extent of the transformation. It was actually a bit lighter when I finished and the pictures kind of show that. Im very happy with the depth especially for a silver car.

Very Nice:up

I believe you did a great job on the engine and especially the interior.

The exterior looks great also but too bad the sun wasn't brighter:( I bet that paint just sparkled.

They were happy with it. They arent enthusiasts, but they appreciated how much better it looked. I think the dirty ones are more fun to detail, you get more of a sense of satisfaction even if the owners dont always fully appreciate your efforts.

Thank you everyone who voted for the Dirty Beetle! I appreciate the support and Ill really enjoy that gift certificate (look out Pinnacle Sovereign!!!). ;)
