Not what I expected

Well I just did my first full detail on my car and the shine is great but not all of the swirl marks came out, here is a list of the products I used-clay,1zpp,1zmp,1zgw, waiting on the gw to cure so I can apply pinacle souveran. All products were applied with mf applicators and buffed off with mf buffing towles. Would it have been more impressive if I used a pc or will it take a couple of applications, please help, the car is black so im sure you can imagin

I tried that minus the wax on my black car by hand. Started out good, but as I tired, the results went down the crapper. Same polishes with a PC where awesome. MP is SUPER mild. I use it as refresher of sorts to kick the shine back up and get rid of MINOR swirls

One thought use a good terry cloth for a little more bite when polishing. I think it works better than MF for this. Maybe Upp was in oder for the swirls but I cant tell without pics, sorry.

so what do I do when the time comes to remove all this product I just applied and start over with a pc, it wont be right away(my arm is still sore)lol

Using either of the polishes will get you back at point zero next time, knocking out your GW Like Scott said, these might be too light for what you got to deal with, but I'd try them with a PC before going on another shopping spree.:wavey

shopping spree no **** I think I spent 300 dollars lat week alone, ill wait a month or so and do a vinager wash because theres some water spots along with clay and the same process but with a pc, oh how do you guys get dried wax and what not out of crevices

Usually with either a cotton swab , or a foam type brush. I wouldnt worry about claying seeing you just did it. I usually only clay twice a year. once in spring and once at the end of summer.

You don't want to wait long on water spots. Get to them as soon as you can. Especially from sprinklers!. I had a week old wax job on mine and had to strip it all cause my reagular washing and QD'ing wasn't touching it. All you'd have to do is re- apply the GW, which shouldn't take too long. As far as crevices, I some times force the towel in with a credit card. It works. I don't have brushes but you might want to look into that.

Why am I replying so quickly? I can't sleep! I thought beer was a sedative.

a credit card is a good idea Jrocc! I get the foam brushes from Meijers for about .25 a piece and you can get them in there really good. I think any paint store might have them.

oaevo8u- Maybe do more work with the PP before moving to MP (or yeah, even start off with Ultra). You have to get almost all the marring out (everything except some light micromarring from the PP, for instance) before you switch to MP, it just doesn't have enough cut to do any correcting. This can take a very, very long time, even by PC/Cyclo, at least compared to working with a rotary.

And I sure wouldn't bother with the Souveran if you're gonna be polishing again in the near future.

I had the same problem on my black car. I tried using MF applicators with the same polishes and I got maring from it. I would recommend using the handi-grip foam applicators as they will not mar the paint at all. Be careful with the UPP as this will also mar the paint if you are not extremely careful. You should be able to get out most or all of the swirls with a couple of applications of PP. Use light pressure when using these polishes even though it seems you should use more. I realy like the 1Z polishes and if you use them right you will get the results you are looking for.

thanks guys, ill deffinitly do that, only thing im pissed off about is the fact I already applied the souveran:angry

I agree, and two rounds with PP would also make a big difference

The misconception with many people, and what gets them frustrated, is that the mere fact of applying product on the car doesn't automatically mean they're going to get results.

"clay,1zpp,1zmp,1zgw, waiting on the gw to cure so I can apply pinacle souveran."

I think it would extremely difficult to effectively do 4 different steps in 1 day properly without a PC/Cyclo. You would just begin to get tired, and end up rushing due to the amount of time spent.

You have to know, and think about what each step is supposed to accomplish. Not just apply one after another then expect results.

Clay should remove the bumps you feel when you put your hand over the paint. A cleaner should remove oxidation, water spots, etc. A compound should take coarser scratches and turn them into a haze, or much lighter scratches. A polish will take this haze or lighter scratches and mill them down further. Once the paint is smooth, clean and swirl free, then you apply your protectant to preserve your work. So after each step, if you have not accomplished what the product is supposed to do, continue with that same product, do not move on to the next step.

your right about tireing, I spent maybe 12 hours doing my car and that didnot include letting the gw cure and then applying ps. Next time I do this all over it will be with a pc and I will not move on to the next step untill I get the results I want. Thanks so much for your help.
