A couple weeks ago I was using my UDM with my MEW 6" backing plate I received from AUTOGEEK a few months ago to use with 6 1/2" pads. The BP gave out after about 3 hours, (it is the all plastic top side type, no steel reinforcement like the OE 5" BP on my UDM). So thats the number 1 problem. #2 happened monday while working on customers vehichle. One of my Vector rotaries gave up. (I dont use them very heavily as Im still learning on it.) Good thing I have 2! #3. I had received a new BP from Poorboys World saturday and decided it was time to do some work on my work pickup here at home. I put the new BP on one of my UDMs and started to try some correction on the hood. All the sudden I have a different feel and sound, the secound BP gave out in 30-40 minutes. (ITs made the same as the one I got from AG!) So it was back to the POS 5" original BP on the UDM. Ran it that way for a couple hours using white and orange flat pads with a variety of products from PWS, PP, SSSR2.5,SSR3, and tried some nufinish scratch remover also. #4. my UDM made 5/17/07 starts to slow down, gets warm and starts to smell. (insert 4 letter swear word_______!!!!!) I checked brushes they are 1/2" long yet. Pulled apart, everything else looks good I think. Put back together. Didnt run any better!!!! (insert four letter word again____!!!!!) Not been good this week. At least Ive got 2 of UDMS and rotaries, but the BPs arent seeming to last. Is there that much difference between OE backing plates and LC backing plates that are probably made of the lesss amperage PC??? Theres my rant, I just thought those BPs would last longer, or is it just how I use them? Who would work on the UDM not under warrantee if its financially repairable? Ill take the rotary apart and see whats wrong, we have new appliance repair store Ill take that to today, I hope.
