Noob needs help with SMR/Zaino process

New to the forum and need some tips for a major detailing that I'm going to do in the next week or two. Here's the plan:

Full detail starting with the Dawn and finishing with a complete Zaino treatment. I have a silver car without any major swirlmark issues, but before I dump all that Zaino on, I'd like to use some sort of SMR to be safe since the Zaino will amplify imperfections. Do I wash w/Dawn, then SMR (with PC), then wash again with Dawn, then hit the Zaino process? Do I use SMR after I clay the car? Also, what type of polishing pads should I use for the SMR? Is there other options I should look at as I haven't really done much detailing to this car other than the rare car wash (pathetic I know, but I'm going to keep it clean from now on:) Some sort of paint cleaner/conditioner maybe??? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here's what I'm currently using on my silver cars:



1. Regular soap wash (don't dry)

2. Clay with Z18/claymagic/mother's clay and soap and water as lubrication.

3. Rinse car over or wash again if clay residue exists.

4. Dry car

5. SMR with PC and CMA white pad for minor swirls.

6. Dawn wash to get rid of dust from SMR and to remove oils from paint.

7. Z2 or Z5 with ZFX x 3

8. Z6 in between each Zaino coat.



I find no need for a paint cleaner like P21S GEPC.

Thanks so much for answering my questions! I've read mixed reviews on the 3M SMR vs. the Meg. #9. Any preference or thoughts on these two products?

Also, as far as Z2 w/ZFX is concerned... is there a max time that you can allow it to stay on? Overnight ok?

As long as it takes care of light swirls and scratches I'll be happy.

I've only used SMR - and had very good results. As for Z2/ZFX - I have left it on for 2 days with no problems.
