noob and a rough Maxima

So I've been roped into sorting out my girlfriends Nissan Maxima sandpaper paint job (silver) and wanted to run my plans by those in the know... so here goes.

Mothers clay bar followed by Meguiars deep crystal polish (cuz I happen to have half a bottle) followed by either Klasse AIO or Klasse HGS (or both?) and possibly followed by a wax (iof she isn't wowed already by how much better it looks). All machine applied.

Any comments on which Klasse products to use or any alternatives? The aim is to seal the paint for as long as possible because she doesn't want to bother with detailing. In fact she rarely even washes her car. Sad but true.

May want to try Collinite 845 Wax as the LSP. A lot of members on the forum use it to protect their cars over the winter. Long lasting protection based on a lot of reviews I've read. Just ordered some myself but haven't used it yet.

How does Collinite 845 compare to Klasse HGS in terms of durability in a mild climate (West Coast)? From what I've read, Klasse is one of the longest lasting sealants out there but Collinite certainly sounds pretty good.

Too be honest I'm not sure how the Klasse SG and Collinite compare as far as protection. From what I've read the Collinite will probably be easier to apply and buff off than the Klasse SG.

I believe Collinite 845 will outlast Klasse. Also if you happen to get collinite 476 which is basically the paste form of 845; 476 will last longer than both but 476 is harder to remove than 845 but still easier than klasse.

Good to know... guess I'll just ditch the polish and go with clay, Klasse AIO and Collinite, perhaps with some sort of Sonus polishing compound for any significant scratches

Depending on how scratched the paint is you might want to go with something stronger than Klasse AIO since its only a chemical cleaner.

Yeah, now I've added yet another product to my wish list... dang, this is getting expensive!

Thinking of clay... Menzerna FPII (or IP and FPII)... AIO then either KSG or Collinite.

I've read a lot of good things about Menzerna IP. I've used FPII and wasn't really that impressed with it. Another product you might look into is Optimum Compound. It worked pretty well for my scratches and swirls but make sure you use the right pc pad (orange or even yellow). If there are any scratches below the clear the OC might not be enough. Just curious what year Maxima are you working on?

It's a 99 that apparently has had no decent wax job since about 2001. I'm not expecting miracles, just some decent water beading for the winter.

I also want to get products I can use on my own, less neglected, 2004 4Runner (gray), which is why I was considering the FPII. The optimum sounds interesting... any residue problems?

I doubt she has any clear left on it... probably all been eaten away by pollution. I can almost file my nails on the lid of her trunk, it's so rough!

I gotta say that this detailing lark is darn expensive for the amateur. I just compiled my shopping list at Autogeek and fell off my chair at checkout. Luckily I already have a PC but with all the pads and bottles of stuff everything else adds up fast.
