Non shedding sheepskin

I very happily switched to Eurow Sheepskins this summer, with high expectations that were met.

One of my mitts started shedding today, which was a real PITA. Hairs everywhere! Is this the end of the Sheepskin era for me? I'm contemplating trying something else now. Do other companies make more durable sheepskin mitts?

I do primarily ONR washes and used Chenille before Sheepskins....I didn't like how stuff got tangled in the chenile weaves and wasn't easily released.

Any suggestions? The Eurow mitts are cheap enough, that I'm contemplating weather the short life span is worth replacing them.

Yea, my Eurow sheds like crazy as well. That's why I only used it once, then relegated it to lower panel duty.

Now I use a Vroom MF mitt. It does lint slightly, but its not noticeable and doesn't get all over your hands, car, EVERYWHERE like it does with the Eurow mitt :hairpull

It seems like the shedding with the posters comes with using ONR...maybe there is something in the ONR that releases the hair..not knocking ONR but there may be something that releases the wool from the hide...

just shooting in the dark..

I have use wool for years and never had them shed from regular car washes..I never used ONR so made a stab at a reason why they shed...

As a pre caution do not get any on your head..lol

Honestly, I have never had a sheepskin shred on me. Call me lucky. I also wash mine in the washing machine after each wash.

I've recently made the switch to grout sponges as many members here have suggested. No problems so far with ONR.

I think this is seriously something we should look into. I use the Excel sheepskins which were far better than the Walmart Euro's in regard to shedding. Using them with conventional washes worked really well. After I starting using ONR, the sheepskins starting shedding lots of hair and literally fell apart after a couple washes. The sheepskin itself lasted well less than 10 washes. Know I don't know if this is just coincidence, but this could well be an actual side effect of ONR.

I have had the opposite effect. my first walmart eurow mit lasted I think 3, maybe 4 "conventional" washes until it literally fell apart, I mean, my thumb was sticking out it and clumps were falling off like I was shaving a sheep in my driveway.

the next one I bought, although I considered not getting another one with such poor performance, has lasted through 8 ONR washes so far. I haven't noticed any shedding and it sounds like I would based on the posting.

It looks like the quality of these walmart is getting is all over the place, some people have posted in other threads like they were the best thing going (thats why I tried it) then it only lasted 3-4 washes? now the newer one I have lasts 8 ONR washes already so go figure.

that Vroom orange dreadlock MF mitt looks interesting at target though, but thats another topic

My favorite wool mitts these days are the ones I find I Walgreens. I can't remember the brand right now, but they're nice and plush and have no thumb. Unfortunately, they often only have one or maybe two in stock at a time. I've never had problems with a wool mitt shedding, whether either with a "regular" wash or ONR, but I use ONR most all the time these days. I've only had one mitt get to the point where the leather was literally coming apart.

:aww: That sucks...but don't let it lead you away from the sheepskins. They are the best out there. I've actually had shedding with my chenille mitts...but really stick with sheepskin, just try another brand. My VIKING sheepskins never shed, but then again I've never used them with ONR...

The ones I use for QEW are holding up fine, but the ones used with regular soap (Zaino, TWP) are shedding. It doesn't bother me much though, by the time they look bad its time to replace them anyway.

I bought a Walmart Eurow sheepskin and it shed heavily after the 1st wash. I figured that was normal. Left to dry and a week later, during the 2nd wash it shed even more and the leather started to come apart. By the end of the 2nd wash, There were holes all over. I took it back to Walmart and got my refund.

It was cheap (less than $5), but I would have expected it to last longer. Both washes were with NXT soap.

To be fair, I bought two at the same time, and each gets used everytime I wash. The one started shedding horribly, as mentioned, and met the garbage yesterday. The other is still going strong.

At $5 I think I may just deal with it, and toss them as they go bad...wether its 3 washes or 20.

I guess if you're a professional detailer, I'd stay clear.

I've found that mitt shedding is tied into how you clean them.. I used to have all of my mitts shed, but now that I just gently rinse them in warm water by hand until clean, shake off excess water and let air dry, its no longer a problem..
