NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on MAY 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

it's nice in theory, but it makes no sense. everyone that needs gas either gets it one day or the next...there is no choice. also, the big oil boys already have the money before it's at the gas station pump. ;)

you might want to recheck your facts. Sorry to be so nitpicky but this is one of my petpeives (one of many) the majority of the Oil that is Used in the US does NOT come from the Middle East.

Where in the World Does Our Oil Come From?

Good point. I think we can all remember how gas went up after Hurricane Katrina knocked out those oil rigs in the gulf coast.

As for this No Gas thing... it seems sort of stupid in premise because I didn't exactly plan on buying gas on that specific day. I'm pretty sure most people don't usually plan on the day that they'll buy gas, and I'm sure most don't buy gas everyday.

It would seem to make more sense to NOT DRIVE on May 15th because at least that would have some sort of merit.

That's good, because now I know the stations won't be busy while I fill up my tank :)

I'll also be revving at stoplights, taking each gear to redline when the light turns green, and also be idling ALL day

yay yay yay

No offense, but economics does not work like this, AT ALL. I'm sorry to say this, but the people who came up with this are rather naive. And yet, people fall for it, time and time again.

You can say that this urban legend is good for one thing though,

and that is the education of people who actually think its true by people who know its not possible. As a country we are not knee deep in oil, we are so far in it that the tops of our heads are barely showing lol :)

I can't believe anyone would think this would work in the first place.

If you want to be mad at excessive profits, be pi$$ed at the banking and credit card industry, their profit margins are nearly double what oils companies pull in.

It would not work but it might call attention to the fact that people can have an impact on their profit margins. Unfortunately, as stated earlier the local retailer will feel the $$ impact.

CC's, Banks and taxes.:wall

If EV's were produced on a bigger scale, battery technology improved, and those ridiculous NIMBY's shown to be completely ridiculous, we could reduce our dependence on oil by making lots of cheap EVs for people who commute relatively short distances (which would probably be a LOT of people in this country), while having plenty of energy (and not just at night, either) with our great modern power source, nuclear energy!

Until someone figures out effective cold fusion, all we've got is nuclear energy. Let's not let ignorant people keep us from using it - statistically, there are fewer deaths with nuclear energy then there are with coal-fire power plants. Of course, we could keep saying statistic forever, or we could start building nuclear power plants and at least reduce our dependence on oil for power plant burning (which is a signifcant amount in and of itself).

There was an electric vehicle produced in the 90's as a concept by GM and was called the "EV1"...project was shut down and cars were destroyed after GM realized there was no demand and no profits..

I've always figured the oil companies had some monetary influence when it comes to whether electrical/solar vehicles would be mass produced for consumers...

But that's another story...

Yup, because big oil will never go down that easily.

If we ever developed a viable alternative to gasoline that could be mass-produced cheaply (like if we got the mass-production part of making butanol down, which can be directly substituted for gasoline, doesn't require new infrastructure (expensive) etc like the JOKE ethanol is), Big Oil would fight it tooth and nail

Actually, they wouldn't have to fight it... just a few "campaign contributions" by their "lobbyists" in Washington and BINGO! No more hope of cheap oil for you, Americans! :nono

And you can bet the huge media conglomerates (who are controlled by businessmen who just incidentally have very close ties to Washington politicians are or are the politicians themselves) would just "spin" the story so that it would have seemed "impossible" to do it anyway, thus appeasing the Sheep of this country for another few years. It always works.

No, it won't. Not buying gas for one day won't get their attention or affect their bottom line.
