Nissan GTR - Paint Polishing -

MirrorDetailing

Customer dropped his GTR off last night to get it cleaned up. Been 8 months since the last time I was able to do anything major to this car and in that time it has been on multiple road courses with many wipe downs during. Customer knew that it was pointless getting full paint correction as it gets tracked often, so he wanted to look as good as it can without having to go to that extent. Settled on my Two-Step Polish Package to clean the paint up.

*Interesting side note*

One big thing out there about these cars is the paint. I have worked on many of these cars and figured this one had enough swirls to do a quick test to get some pictures of.

Took a small area and only buffed it with a LC Black Pad and Ultrafina. Using my GG DA at Speed 6 with little to no pressure. Just worked it into the paint with about 5-6 section passes. Nissan claims that the GTR is a "hard clear" as shown below.

Now as you will see from this test area. Here is what it looked like before...

Notice there are still some deep rids still left. But just from a very fine polish, a very minimal cut pad and no KBM style buffing and you still get moderate correction. These paints are very soft. As I was wiping off the SIP in a lot of the areas I was leaving Towel Scratches behind. Which luckly Ultrafina cleaned up and comes off easy enough with no effort to not leave any behind.

Just figured I would post this up for those that might work on these cars. The buffing process is a bit different as in the more heat you put into the paint, the bigger a pain it becomes.

+1 ... Ultrafina is known to have "ultra-fillers"

+2, or is it +3 now? UF will fill no doubt about it, you could have hand rubbed the area, a PC just doesnt have the motion to break down the media well enough to get correction. UF is designed to only really take out the finest of marring its a jeweling media in my book. I would also say that wiping down with IP would cause the paint to swell too. However on paint such as this I bet no matter what you do you can't finish down well enough not to use a durable glaze?

The car looks great! Some paints are just a PITA and for those you have to use other means to get them near perfect.

Cheers,

GREG

Ultrafina can correct. I won't say it's impossible to fill...as practically any fine polish can. But I have corrected with it and done a straight alky wipedown with great results.

Yeah wasnt trying to say whether it fills or not, just for the fact of since I dont see many of these cars posted here, I would give a heads up that the paint may have a hard clear badge, but is really soft paint. Thanks for the comments though.
