Nighthawk Black Pearl paint looks almost BROWN?

Has anyone run into the problem of their black (particularly Nighthawk Black Pearl) car looking almost brown in the sun? On overcast days and at night, it looks black, but in the sun, it doesn't look as black as I want it to.

I took some pics, but they don't show what I want you guys to see.

Any suggestions as to how or why this is happening? In the end, I want a black car, regardless the weather/lighting.

It might be the Pearl that's in the name of the paint. I know the subaru Midnight Black Pearl has a very distinct navy blue shade in certain angles. . .

I've run into the same problem with my Civic and also with my girlfriends. I'm pretty sure it's from the amount of pearl and various other colors in the paint. It's odd, but I've learned to live with it. You'll notice the like the subaru, there is a lot of blue in the paint too.

The only way to get a really black car in the sun is to have a flat black car. Any metallics or pearl effect will inherently look less than black in the sun.

One of our Honda's has Nighthawk Black Pearl and it has a blue reflection. I've never noticed it looking brown, which would be odd, since the metal flake is blue.

I'm reaching here but maybe yours has brown or gold metal flake?

Yea, I noticed that while washing under the sun.

A nice, rich glaze like P21S PCL helps darken and deepen NBP. It helps give it a wetter look too...

Thanks for the prompt reply's!

NBP has some blue flakes in it, and it looks great! I was thinking that it was all in my glaze. I'm using Meguiar's #7 only because of availability. I can't find a store that sells other exotic products like Vanilla Moose, P21S, etc.

Oh well, the search continues :).

The 2004 models WRX and STi have a new black that looks green in certain light.

Here's a pic of it(that didn't show the true color of it)

That's the nature of most of those pearl paints. The flecks are mica, and depending on the angle of incidence of light, the mica flakes will look slightly different in colour, because of the polarizing nature of mica.
