Nice Compliment Today

I don't think AIO will totally remove Zaino but will degrade it. The PPCL will remove it.

I read somewhere in the archives that someone had Zaino then wanted to switch over to Klasse. He washed and Klasse AIO/Klasse SG the car. No problem.

I believe the Klasse AIO X2 will remove Zaino and provide an excllent base for SG and a carnauba topper if you want.

If you have swirls or other paint defects, take care of those first then Klasse.

I think AIO is a fairly strong cleaner and will remove Zaino. It will remove Klasse, so no reason why it won't do Zaino also. But of course we are purist's here and PPCL is the gold standard for removing waxes and sealants.

H

Klasse. I have only used AIO to remove Zaino and then apply SG and did it with no problem at all. I have Z on my silver BMW and Klasse on my Black focus. The klasse on the black looks awesome. You shoudn't have any probs with using AIO to remove Z. I had 3 coats Z2 and 2 coats Z5, used AIO with no prob with a smooth transition to SG. What a great prod those twins are.

Great tips at yosteve's page Jason!

Love that concours application of Blitz!

Yes, AIO will remove Zaino or any other wax or poly sealant. One must remember these waxes and/or sealants, although durable, are micro thin layers and cannot withstand the cleaning/polishing agents in AIO or comparable products. However...if your really motivated and energetic, you can always do the car first with a swirl remover (Megs/3M) and then Klasse it. The polishing oils in the swirl remover will feed the paint and do your finish no wrong.

Hey JTS,

A quality SMR, which is actually a cleaner/polish, will have no problem removing any old wax or Zaino or other sealants.

IMO I feel anytime you (me) want to re-do your well maintained finish, its always an excellent idea to use a SMR because of the simple fact that aside from removing any swirls, very fine scratches and other fine imperfections that unfortunetly accumulate on the even the best kept cars, the polishing oils they contain are excellent for the paint and rejuvenate the deep gloss and prolong paint life. It actually feeds the paint.

There is a simple test. Its called the finger test. After using a cleaner/polish (SMR) rub your index finger back and forth on the finish in about a 3 - 4 inch straight line. If you hear a slight squeaking sound you have stripped the wax/sealant. Try this test before and after SMR. Before, you should hear no squeaking sound because of the protective wax or poly sealant coating. After, a slight squeak cuz now your down to the cleaned and polished finish.

Now that you mention it...which do you think are SMR's that are worthy??

I have some 3M...

O/W thanks for the help so far...

edit:

Nevermind, I just saw in your previous post that 3m was worthy!!!

Thanks!

Personally...as far as SMR`s go, I find 3M SMR and Meguriars#9 SMR both to be to *excellent* products. They will both deliver great results either by hand or machine but machine will always do a better job. That is what is so good about most SMR`s...the flexibility that you can use them by hand or machine and get good results. I`m not advocating that other SMR`s are less worthy, I just find these two IMO

to be the best SMR`s .

I respectfully disagree. The oils present in SMR's and CL's have solvents and mild polishing qualities that aid in preparing the paint for your final protectant, but as for "feeding" the paint, that's all marketing hype. According to our highly esteemed Ron Ketcham, the oils may lay on top or even actually go down into porosity of the clears, but they are not part of the structure and will weaken the molecular chain over time if allowed to stay there.

I guess, perhaps, I got caught up in the hype and marketing hoopla. The way it was explained to me by my local auto paint supply shop was that these oils, solvents and some minerals found in polishes, cleaner polishes/SMR`s, replace/restore and "feed" the paint which is being slowly degraded and lost due to time, heat, sun, general exposure to the elements, etc. etc. But you do have a point about these properties not being in the paint structure to begin with. Defitnetly something to file under things that make you go Hmmmmmm..........

So, I'm trying to sell my mom's '07 Volvo S80 and I had a looker today. Well, I haven't had a chance to really detail it and mom takes REALLY good care of her cars, but it still needs a good polishing, but I just haven't had time to do it yet. Well, anyway, yesterday I deep cleaned the front seats (the rear seats have never been used) and it's unreal how well Meguiars APC works on Volvo leather. Anyway, I also gave it a quick wipedown inside with Zaino Leather Conditioner, a quick runaround outside with BFQD on the paint, Griots Speed Shine on the wheels, Z16 on the exterior plastic trim and tires and gave it a 20 minute engine detail with Purple Power followed up by AA Tire Foam. All in all, less than an hour, easy, including washing. Well, this nice family shoes up and drives it and comes back and obviously loves the car. Then, the wife gets out and says, "please tell me you just had that car freshly detailed, I've never seen a car that clean!!"

In my ad on Craigslist and Cars.com I promised a full detail prior to delivery, but heck, I guess with the "normal" person, I've already done that, HA!

Anyway, they didn't buy the car, yet, but I thought that was funny. The car is Ice White, but I can see so many swirls and RIDS and it's driving me nuts, but just haven't had the time to give it a full polish. But, if I can get a buyer that doesn't know/car the difference, I'll go ahead and make the sale.

I like driving this car, it's really nice, but man, I miss my Sonic Blue Brick!!!

When "average Joe" sees a car that is really clean, they are usually awe-struck! A lot of people only wash their car twice a year (if that).:out: When they see a nicely detailed car they can't believe their eyes!

Good job Zack.... :Dancing Dot:

Ain't that the truth! I've had this car a couple of weeks and the first time I washed it, I noticed it had a nice coat of waxy on it, nice beading, but when I got it dried off and looked at it in the sun, I took a pic and sent it to mom to show the damage done by those stupid brushed auto car washes!! But, when they saw it today in the garage and the potential buyers saw it, they thought it just rolled off the showroom floor. I actually makes me want to get out the 105/205 and the BFWD and show them what a "true" detail is!

I'm still hoping my pics convinced mom to keep her new XC90 out of the stupid auto car washes!!!!

I agree with Bill. Most people wouldn't know the difference if it bit them on the a**. I was outside today sprucing up the bimmer, and my next door neighbor was washing his car. He was having his 14 yr. old daughter help him. The way he was washing his car was making me shiver. He had his daughter soaking the windows with Windex and wipping them off with paper towel. I was able to see the streaking from my driveway. He then told her to wipe down the dashboard with the Windex. At this point I had to go over there to put a stop to this. Most people wouldn't know what a swirl is if they were looking straight at it. As long as it is clean:out:

Sometimes I wonder if we are the crazy ones :out:

Its always humbling when someone starts going all goo goo over a car I have worked on. I actually get a bit embarrased :o

Good looking out for Moms Zack, hope you have a quick sale :)

That's so funny and so true. I see neighbors washing their cars in the street, scrubbing the wheels with the same mitt they take to the paint, drying with a dirty bath towel, "waxing" with NuFinish and letting their kids use the car as a backstop in their batting practice.

I'm dead serious, not all of the above is from the same neighbor, but everything witnessed above is within 3 houses of me on either side!!!

Oh and the guy next to me has a 04 GTO, decent car, and not only does it sit outside constantly, when two stalls are open in the garage, but he "waxes" it in the high sun and get's about 1/2 of it off when it dries! It drives me nuts. He sees that I detail vehicles and he sees the two that I keep, yet he won't let me make his look like it wants to!

Oh well, whatcha gonna do?
