Newbies first detail of his new car

Hi all. I've been a member of this site for some time, but haven't posted much. I recently purchased a San Marino Red '04 Accord coupe and decided it was time for the first detail. Now, the last time I tried to detail a car was well over two years ago (had a company car previously) so I'm inexperienced to say the least. Here is what I did for my basic detail.

* Washed/dried with Mr. Clean Auto Dry system. I have to say, this far exceeded my expectations. Easy to use and left absolutely zero spots.

* 'Waxed' with Meguiars NXT liquid wax. Applied with the enclosed foam applicator and removed with some of those 'soft as diapers' clothes.

I must say I'm very pleased with the results. The shine is incredible but the only thing I noticed was that while it seemingly removed/hid any slight swirls the car may have had, the surface still feels slightly rough, or not exactly mirror smooth. Would a clay bar help this?

Obviously I'm a newbie so any advice is helpful. I'm not quite ready to make the huge jump of a PC buffer and multiple pads, but maybe some recommendations on microfiber towels is needed. Above all, the product needs to be easy to apply and easy to remove by hand, which NXT is. Thanks.

Okay, I should use MF towels to remove the wax, but what to appyly them. Are those generic terry coth applicators safe?

detailing, from i have learned is all about process. Clean, polish, protect, and perfect was how i was taught.

1) wash the vehicle

2) polish the vehicle with any number of different polishes on the market.. by hand or by machine.

3) Seal the paint with a good sealent for protection.

4) Wax after the sealent has cured with a good wax such as NXT.

hope this helps a little. there is gobs and gobs of information on this sight. Look into getting a Porter Cable DA polisher. great investment and newbie proof. ALso check out the "click and brag" forum to see what others use on their vehicles and to see how it works for them. good luck man!!

I might look into a PC but I have this (un)founded visions of me using the wrong pad and swirling the paint to high heaven or worse. Is it truly easy to use?

I certainly don't think Ranney's prices are ridiculous. Email him for pricing on whatever you are interested in. ranney@pakshak.com

Look at the pricing of his Klasse, Poorboy's, and Meguiar's products. He is quite a bit higher than other retailers. Natty's at $22 versus $15, #16 at $18 versus $12, 16.9 oz. Klasse AIO at $29.95 versus $22.95.

Some reason I do not think he will give a 25-33% discount to be in line with other retailers. :nixweiss

Not sure about the other products, but you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the discount he gives on his towels. I know I was!

Why don't you spend 30 seconds to send him an email and find out, instead of whining like a little girl...:D It can't be too hard.

His retail prices are slightly higher, because he offers free shipping. Autopians pay for shipping, but get great prices.
