Ok, i have had the Porter Cable random orbital for a couple years now and havnt had to good of luck with it. I know it is ME. I read alot about how to use them, but i would like to see a video of someone using it. I am a visual learner. What i do need is more polish and pads. I have SSR1 but that doesnt do much, B/c i have a new black car and swirls every where. I know i might be open a whole BUCKET of worms but what pads and polish would work good. LOL. i have heard of sonus pads. SSR3 mabye then SSR1 and then some type of wax. what steps would yall take. and what is AIO.. i would like to do this correctally. keeping the price as low as possibe. what do yall think.

AIO - All In One

I also just started using the PC. A buddy of mine had very bad maring and scratches in his paint. I used SSR2.5 w/cutting pad, then SSR1 w/cutting pad, then SSR1 w/ polish pad. Most of them came out, there were still some deep makrs left behind. I don't think I would go with SSR3, thats some heavy cutting for a PC, although some say thay have done it before. Someone more knolageable should be along to help you out.

Thanks, so AIO will polish, wax and wash a car. It has to have a purpose. what is it main purpose. and what brand name cutting pad did u use. I have some Lake Countys. i just dont know. and is there a video on using a pc.

AIO is a cleaner /polish / protectant .

Lets start with your pads . What color LC pads do you have ?

If you have an Orange LC pad give that a try with your SSR 1 if that isn't working and you have a yellow LC pad try that.

Now if you buy 2.5 start out with your lest aggressive pad ( White LC is a polish pad) then move up as you see fit. You may need to make a few extra passes to get the results your after.

SSR 2.5 is a good starting point if you have meduim swirling .

Meguiars has a few video's in the Online Clinic section of the web site . Check them out .

Good luck and don't be discouraged if your not getting the results you want. You will sooner or later .:D

Go to Adam's. There is a video about polishing and what not. It has somewhat of a decent demo of Pc usage.
Calling it "somewhat of a decent demo of PC usage" is being pretty kind. I'm sure Adam's went through a lot of trouble and expense to create that video... and he is to be commended for that. However, the video doesn't do much more than show someone how to cover up swirls with a PC using products with fillers. Anyone that has used a PC to "remove" some mild paint defects will tell you that.

I think one would be better served checking out these links:

Just my 2 cents. :D

True. I haven't bought my pc yet, so for someone like me atleast it shows me the basic maneuver and the tip about not lifting before it's done spinning. But you can read all that too. To be honest - I'm easily entertained. I can watch the Adam's videos over and over even though I know all that stuff and I've done it and seen all teh vids before.

I agree......... just don't like to see people get the wrong information, or pick up bad habits.
