Newbie - When to use Quick Detailer?

Hi,

So far my Meguiars QD has only been used with clay and to give a shine after my weekly wash. This morning I noticed a cat had walked over the car, I was just about to give it a full wash but tbh the car was perfect apart from the cat prints and a bit of dust so I decided to mist some QD on and wipe with a MF. Is this the intended use for QD?

Basically what I'm asking is when do I decide to use just QD or go for a full wash instead?

I presume dust and the odd speck of dirt I'd be safe with the QD?

Many thanks

Dom

Your right on par with the rest of us. Dont mistake it for a quick wash method, it is only intended for fingerprints and very very light cleaning situations.....

I just break out the California Car Duster in that situation. It works wonders! I use QD too, but only when the situation really calls for moisture to "fix" something...

Yeah I use my OXO duster to clean off dust, and then I QD. If there's heavy dust, then I just wash it.

In your situation, I'd just determine whether you think the dust is heavy enough to warrant washing it.

I recently made the big mist-ake (har har) of using Meg's QD on a car that was too dirty. I guess I was a little over-enthusiastic about what the spray could do. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Now I have to break out the PC again to get rid of the fine scratches in the wife's hood. Hopefully it's just in the top layer of P21S/AIO. I should have just washed...

I probably shouldn't have used it to clean the back of my car recently! I live on a dirt road so my car gets dirty right away and I didn't want to wash it all over again. I sprayed tons on so hopefully that saved me from scratches...I haven't noticed any yet.

I use it to help remove bird droppings, fingerprints and after washes. I never use it to get rid of dust or light dirt, I leave that for washes.

So the blurb that accompanies QD is basically a load of nonsense then? It even says you can use it every day.

Thanks

I'm with Richt in this one. Only after a wash or after wax/sealant removal for me. There is so much sand that blows around in the air, here in west texas, that I won't take the chance on adding anymore micromarring to my black paint. When in doubt.......WASH!!!

What Mike said about QD was that it was for removing smudges from prints, or light dust. If the car gets wet and a film forms, it should be washed. And anything heavier than dust will scratch. I don't have swirls because I was the autopian-way, but I have scratches! ARRGGH
