Newbie ? on AIO's

Hi All-

Just found this forum through one of the (several!) others I'm part of. Lot's of great advice. I'm new to the OCD world of detailing, but I'm easily addicted, so looking forward to a new obsession!

Anyway, I just bought a 2003 BMW in Titanium Silver - the lightest silver they make. You probably know the color - I think 75% of the BMWs made in the last 5 years are this color! The paint looks to be in good shape. I can't see too many swirls, but maybe the silver hides them better than by old black '93 (detailed with Brillo!)

I am looking for recommendations on the best AIO product. I have very little time to take care of the car - I live in NYC and can only get an hour or 2 a month when I get out to the suburbs to visit family or friends. So ease and speed of application, as well as durability, are important. I am willing to supplement the finish with a good QD or acrylic spray when I wash.

I am looking at the following AIO's and their associated QD sprays:

Klasse All-in-One / ?????

Menzerna Acrylic Jacket / Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield

Jeffs Werkstatt Prime Acrylic / Acrylic Gloss

Duragloss 105 / Duragloss AW (Is 105 actually an AIO product?)

For the first application, I will probably only be able to wash and clay. So I guess polishing properties are important? Also, I have a PC polisher, but haven't used it yet, so something that's easy for a first timer at machine polishing would be good too!

BTW, I also have a buch of Griots products that I received as gifts. Any of them worth keeping?

Sorry about the rambling post. Thanks in advance!

My Honda is a billit silver color so it may be very similar to yours. Silver is great for hidding swirls, dust and dirt. It never seems real dirty like darker colors. However, you never quite get the "wow" and "pop" factor that a darker color finished with a good carnuba provides.

I use Klasse, both the AIO and SG and the shine and durability lasts six months at least. Of course it is a garage queen and since I live in Texas it is never exposed to salt, sand and other factors you have in NY. Nonetheless, once you get the hang of it, Klasse is hard to beat for light silver. I've tried Werkstatts Jett and it is very good too.

Once you put on a good polish/sealant you can refresh it after your wash with any number of good spray products. I often use a homebrew mix of 1 part SG to 3 parts of distilled water in a mister bottle and wowo just like a QD. Other good products for this purpose include Menzerna's HGAS, Wolfgang's Spray Sealant, Sonus Acrylic Spritz, Duragloss AquaWax among several others - all high quality products that are easy to use and take little time and effort. They are just the ticket for your once a month wash.

I would recommend Prime Strong and Acrylic Jett Trigger. It's basically a newer version of Klasse (both imported from Carlack in Germany). Klasse is still a great product if you can find a deal, but some say that the AIO has lost some cleaning abiltiy post VOC regulations

Prime Strong has a stronger cleaning ability, but is still mild abrasive wise, and has the extra acrylic in it like the Prime Acrylic

The Trigger is nearly as easy to use as a QD and gives good durability and should look great on silver

Have a look at Finish Kare as well. The #215 Ultra is a very good all-in-one type product.

#217 handy as well for touching up after a wash.

Great. Thanks for all the feedback!

Any opinion on the Duragloss 105? I have to admit, the cost appeals to me, since the open bottle will probably go bad before I can use even half of it. Less worried about the QD sprays, of course....

Hi Rockfish, welcome to Autopia! :wavey

Among the product you mention, Klasse is the one I'm familiar with. Klasse AIO is a bit of a misleading name, as it's purpose is mostly cleaning and prepping. It does leave a bit of acrylic protection, but not much. It's the companion product, Klasse SG, that does the protecting (and adds more gloss as well).

Some people swear by AIO/SG, some swear at them! Actually it's the SG that drives many people crazy; it's not a very forgiving product, if you don't use the right technique. (There are MANY threads about SG and the "proper" application technique if you want to search). Having said that, Klasse AIO can be used as a base for many other products, if you don't want to fuss with SG.

What Griot's products do you have? Maybe you could post a list. Some of Richard's products are very good, some are average and a few are not that good at all.

Thanks. I might stay away from something that is tricky to apply, for now at least. I'd prefer something that offers more protection from the first coat, though like I said I am happy to add additional protection with a QD spray after I wash.

As for the Griots stuff, hmmm let's see:

Car Wash

Best in Show Wax

More bottles of Speed Shine than I can count

Wheel cleaner

Vinyl and Rubber Dressing

Interior Cleaner

Glass Cleaner

Paint Sealant

Spray-on Wax

...probably some I forgot

The Sealant and Spray-on Wax are obviously "intended" to do what I am looking for, but I get the impression from cruising around this site that there are better options out there.

Pheromones are BS. Ad's for them are everywhere, but there has yet to be a study that conclusively says that injested or injected pheromones attract the opposite sex.

You cant make youre Penis bigger. Deal with it.

Anatrim is BS. It's a diuretic and an appetite suppressant. The diuretic aspect comes from dandelions, and theres not nearly enough in this to do any good. Diuretics are bad anyhow. And the plant that anatrim comes from has been known to cause fatal allergic reactions. PLUS, they will say that Oprah and CNN have approved of this product, which is absolute BS. Niether have ever said they support this.

And last but not least, HGH. Sure it'll make your muscles bigger if ya put in the work. But you're testicles will shrink. And thats every guys christmas wish.

Shortspark, about youre 3:1 water/aio SG mix. I do the same now, except I use EX-P in the same ratio. And I also use Meg's Gold Class liquid w/ Eagle 1 wax-as-you-dry 1:3 respectively.

OK, back on topic :chuckle: I've tried all the Griot's products you list except for the Paint Sealant and the Spray-on Wax. Griot's stuff seems to polarize people. Here's what I think:

Car Wash - good stuff!

BOS Wax - A good, but not a great product. I like the results, it has fillers which help with swirls, but it's a bit of a pain to buff out. Be sure to apply it very thinly; I like using a PC.

Speed Shine - good stuff!

Wheel cleaner - pretty mild; you don't need to worry about it etching the clearcoat! I like it.

Vinyl and Rubber Dressing - nice satin finish. Not all that durable in my experience.

Interior Cleaner - good stuff

Glass Cleaner - When I first tried it, I was not impressed. Then I used it with a waffle weave MF towel and the results were excellent! Who would have thunk?? :)

Hope this helps some. I'm sure others will offer their thoughts.

No grease, I don't use a AIO in my mix, only water and SG. Some people have tried diluted AIO but I can see no reason for it. There are dedicated QDs that would do better whereas the SG and water is similar to the Sonus Spritz - but much cheaper. How do you like the EX-P homebrew? Have you compared it to the SG mix?

Well, after that brief spam interlude.....

I always wondered about Groits. With his hardware and tools, the "Greed-o" label seemed to be right - if you knew what it was you could find it elsewhere cheaper. He got slammed on his markeups for the PC 7424, and he eventually stopped selling it!

I'm actually glad to hear some of his products are OK, though. I've got a ton of Speed Shine, so it's good to hear that get some respect.

I think he provides a service, in a way. He IS mass market, but he lets people know there is world out there of people who REALLY know how to take care of cars. He's not the end of the road, but follow his lead and you'll end up in Autopia, and beyond...
