Newbie here with a black Jetta...am I on the right track?

Hey guys,



Looking to put an order together for my first attempt at paint restoration. My 97 Jetta has 150k abusive miles on her...swirl marks, water spots, wierd white stain that from my wife spilling take-out on the passenger door, stratches etc etc...



So far I have the following in my cart at AG:

Do you think the Hyper Compound is over my head? I see that it doesnt break down and you need to check your work often... Would I be better off with something less abrasive?



Any other recommendations? Thanks!

My two cents would be to go with compound instead of hyper compound, but that is a matter of preference. And ditch the #21 as opti seal will likely do you fine. I personally prefer 5" pads as they have a bit more "bite", but i think you would have to get those from danase, on the plus side 6 are about 40 bucks.



Also, get some DP pad cleaner, you will need it.



Make sure to post with the progress on the car!
 
You should try the 5" LC CCS pads from Danase. For me, I have found them to be much more effective at removing defects. My PC (7424) seems to get a little bogged down with the 6.5" pads. But with the 5" pads, the PC hums nicely and defects are removed much more quickly.



I still love the 6.5" pads for applying glazes like RMG and also for applying my LSPs.



Unfortunately, you can only get these pads from Danase but there's a good deal if you get the 6 pack.

Actually just saw in your post that you are getting the UDM which has a more powerful motor than the PC so you may not have the problems that I have. But either way it's still worth a thought...

\r\n\r\nThe UDM comes with 4 5.5\" low profile wolfgang orange cutting pads as a bonus...maybe those will be better for the defects than the LC 6.5\"?'
