Newbie here! Which of these 3 waxes should I use?

Hello everyone! This is my first post, and this place seems like a great place to ask for car detailing help......

I collected 3 different types of waxes today from my uncle, bro,& sis. Mother's Original Formula Carnauba Cleaner Wax, Meguire's Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax, and Zymol Cleaner Wax. My sister wants me to wax her white 99 accord tomorrow. Which of these 3 should I use?

I also bought a clay magic clay bar. Am I suppose to leave the car wet after I wash it? Then use the lube and clay, then wash the car again?

I have no experience of your wax’s so the best thing to do is to try them and see how your get on. I do not see why could not keep the car wet from the final rinse before claying. Good luck and report back on how you get on.

I've used the Zymol and Mothers cleaner waxes in the distant past. The Zymol (possibly made by Turtle Wax) had some fairly good cleaning properties, but didn't last long. The Mothers lasted a little longer, but I didn't find the cleaning ability as good.

The Gold Class is probably the most highly regarded of the 3 waxes you've got. I've never used it, although I know some people around here do. It has some mild cleaning ability and gives a pretty good shine apparently. But it too does not last long at all.

Do a forum search for each of those three waxes and you'll probably come up with some good information.

I've used all three, and they all work pretty good, depending of course on the surface prep. I'd lean to the Gold glass-- It shined nicely on red before I learned about Klasse and Blitz wax!!:up

:O

If you were using the Blue Zymol liquid.. yah that is made by Turtle Wax.. the REAL Zymol Paste is not.. do not be fooled!

If the paint is relatively contaminated, I would use the Zymol cleaner/wax. If the paint is in better shape, but not as smooth as glass, use the Mothers Cleaner Wax. If the paint is in near-perfect condition and you want the best shine possible, use the Meguiar's Gold Class wax.

You might also want to try using both Zymol (<- for cleaning) and Gold Class (<- for shine.)

As with the clay bar, wash your car as you would normally do and dry it. Once dried, spray the lube onto a section of your car and rub the clay back and forth. Be sure to fold it often. After several passes, wipe off the lube and check the paint. Is it as smooth as glass? If not, you might have to use it again. Then follow up with your favorite wax or polymer...

Good luck,

~bw

Wow thanks for the replies! I wrote this before I went to bed and I just woke up and bam, all these replies already :)

okay if Im short on time ill go with Gold Glass since my sister's car still in pretty new condition. Or I'll do zymol or mothers first, then Gold Glass last for the shine if I have time. Hrmm this is the first time someone is detailing her paint so Ill try do the combo.

hey mp5toronto - I have a p5 too! its silver.

Im still tryin to decide between zaino or klasse before i detail my own car. Im practcing on my sister's first :D

badboyeee,

My P5 is the dark blue colour. Klasse has been great and very easy to apply and remove so far. The P5 does have some annoying creases though that seem to trap water, etc...

Yah I know, I had to blow out some water from some creases. and the front grill is the most irritating, theres like water spots now. What do you do to take care of that?

Is Klasse SG really that hard to buff out?

Okay I've done my sisters car. I ended up using all 3 waxes haha. I didn't have time to clay the whole car. The hood has like 3 coats, all 3 waxes. I've noticed some parts, especially the hood was rough. I have a feeling that some of the clear cloat on that hood is gone. It looks pretty shiny and all, but when I feel it, its rough. Could this be oxidation? I cant really tell because the car is white. How do I smooth out this area?

I would suggest claying - without a picture I'm really not sure.

As for the P5 - I find the most annoying place is around the license plate - drips everywhere and I can't seem to dry them out. If I had a leaf blower I'd try that, but I don't....

As for SG - I used it for the first time recently and didn't find it hard to buff out at all. I left it on there for 4 hours - not the 24 hours as some suggest. I couldn't resist seeing how hard or easy it was to buff! 95% of the residue came of with a dry MF towel and the rest came off with a little QD. :up

I was unaware that Meguiars Gold Class had any cleaning properties? I always thought it was just a wax?:nixweiss

I learn something everyday here :up .

use one of the cleaner waxes then top with the MGC (dunno either if it is a cleaner wax or not, becuase they make MGC cleaner wax too right?)

mp5_toronto, most Klassers don't recommend you wait to buff for 24 hours, they recommend you wait to add the next coat. You can buff from 20 minutes to whenever you feel like it. You just need to make sure that dust doesn't settle on your car so that when you buff you don't get any contaminants.

Yo Steve - thanks for the tip. Yes, I guess I had misinterpreted a recent thread I had read. I've only got 1xSG right now, but I'll keep that in mind next time I go to add another layer.

As for Gold Class - as I said, I've never used it. But I think (based on what I've read) that it did contain mild cleaners although it doesn't call itself a 'cleaner wax'. I didn't think that Meguiars made a separate Gold Class cleaner wax.... but I could be wrong. Anyone...?

I showed my sister the rough spot on the hood, she said she once was wiping it down hard with a cloth while washing it because it was really dirty, and then there was white stuff on her cloth afterwards. So the clearcoat in that area is a goner!

I guess Ill try and do a better job claying. Is it safe to do it on nonclearcoats? Thats why I did more cleaner wax coats on the hood, hoping it would get smoother but it didnt. oh weels
