Newbie: Got a PC, which pad set to buy?

I just got a PC (actually it was a very generous gift from my best friend) and I need some pads now.

I want to buy all the pads I'll need for a full detail (polish, wax, etc).

I've searched a bunch in here and I'm still confused. (I've also read the guides on how to use a PC).

So...When I put in my order, who should I order from? And what pad kit should I get to have everything I need?

Thanks.

I ordered my pads from Autogeek. They really have fantastic service and I would not hesitate to shop with them again.

I bought Lake Country CCS pads. Look on autogeek.net and check out the descriptions of the pads. Basically, there is a order of abrasiveness of the foam pads. For the Lake Country pads, it goes (most abrasive to least) yellow, orange, white, gray, blue. For polishing, usually I would go with the orange and the white. Orange will do most paint correction, and the white pad will handle the finishing of the paint. Waxing can be done with the gray or blue pad.

Other people use the Edge pads and Sonus pads. I didn't do much research on those pads, but if you search around, you'll find lots of great information.

Good luck!

Im in the same boat as you are. Im another newbie and just bought a PC from Lowes ($38:getdown ) I looked at the pads at autogeek and felt like the Edge 2000 system would be my best bet. I figured the flexable backing plate costs just about the same as the edge adaptor. Each edge pad is like getting 2 pads because they can be flipped over to use both sides.

I might have fallen for the hype, but I thought that having my pads always centered would be a big plus and make for an easier learning curve. I also felt with no backing plate, I couldnt accidentally scratch my paint with a slight slip.

I basically felt the edge system would make learning easier.:buffing:

We were using the LC pads for years on the PC's and Makita. We just recently swithed over to the Edge 2000 system. So far we love them. 2 pads in one, no more trying to center the pad (esp on the high speed). We have not experienced any drawbacks as of yet. Only issue we have had so far is some pad seperation from the internal plate on 1 pad, but Aaron at Edge stands by his products 100% and a replacement was set out the next day. We still have our hook n loop backing plates....but they are sitting in storage with all the velcro backed LC pads. Not knocking LC at all, they performed without any issues, but the quick disconnect and double side pad closed the deal for us.

For the PC, I am a fan of LakeCountry pads also, mainly because of the large range of available cuts to the foam, from yellow cutting right down to red/blue fine finshing. Good quality pads that are effective and last well.
