Newbie first detail results!

Hey guys, here's a few pictures of my truck (sorry they're so large!)



This is my first major detail, I washed it twice with dawn (over the span of a few days), then clayed it after the second wash, polished it (mostly Megs 205 with a tangerine pad, some panels I also did 105 with a cyan pad first). After that I did a KAIO and I'm doing a few layers of KSG at the moment. I think for the hell of it I'll add a coat of some Gold Class after I'm done with the KSG just to see how it looks. I'm mostly prepping the paint for this summer so I have less work to do, also to make washing it for the next 2 months with ONR a lot easier. Anyway, here's a few shots, let me know what you think! (I used a Makita rotary...)



These pictures are just after polishing with 205...no Klasse Twins or wax yet The one shot of the door handle with the scratches is obviously after the clay, before the polish. I'm pretty happy with the results, I'm by no means good at this or plan on making money like some of you...but the paint is silky smooth already even without the KSG or wax...I can't wait to be finished! I couldn't wait to share. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for that. I'm doing the KSG right now...hopefully a few coats, between each coat I'll be polishing my wheels that I just finished washing. I'll also coat the wheels with the Klasse twins after polishing, hopefully get a few coats of KSG on them for protection against oxidation and brake dust...and I'll have full truck pictures this weekend!



I'm satisfied with my results, however I skipped the 3M Ultrafina step that I had originally planned on doing. I thought the 205/tangerine finished off nicely enough, unfortunately there are still some scratches visible in the right light at the right angle. So I'm a little bummed about that, fortunately I'm a college student and I just wanted to get this done A) after winter time because I knew the paint was in bad shape and B) I won't have the opportunity to do this again for a few months. Also C) I can easily wash it every few weeks with ONR while I'm in school with a bucket, wash mit, and waffle weave. So...ultimately I'm very happy. Unfortunately it's not 100% but hey, I'm no expert so...beggars can't be choosers, right?

That's a really nice color. I see that you are using the Klasse twins. I'm waiting on a bottle of Poliseal. I haven't used a AIO before, so let's see how it goes!

I'm in the same boat as far as the AIO. I had previously never used AIO's but about a month ago i picked up some Poli-Seal and i couldn't be happier. For a AIO it has some nice correction and it finishes up nice.



Only thing i notice and it might be from something i'm doing wrong is not only does it stain the pads but it seems to gum up the pads pretty quickly. Other then that it works nicely.
 
Ideally I was going to do 3M ultrafina after the 205, and I was going to use Megs #26 after a few coats of KSG (but I don't have 26 like I thought I did). I think I'm running short on time (spring break is over this weekend!) and I have a few other big things to take care of on top of detailing this thing so...anyway, I can always try my luck again later this summer before I start hitting the car shows. I think this was a fantastic learning experience and I got some pretty good results. I can't wait to improve upon them and try new products in the future.



I'd love to find a carnauba wax to really help my color 'pop' and I'll probably try Blackfire Wet Diamond for a sealant next. The paint is metallic, and I'm really not sure if it'd be considered a 'light' or 'dark' color. I'm leaning towards 'dark' but can't say for sure. I'll post more pictures soon!



I realize the sealant+carnauba is somewhat controversial...the only reason I say that is because I'm fairly certain I don't like how the KSG finishes, almost looks filmy/plastic when it's done. I want that carnauba look but as a daily driver and only having the ability to clean it every few months the protection from something like KSG or maybe BFWD is important to me. I'd mostly like to throw a carnauba on top of the sealant for car shows to make it look really good. I'm just going to keep my Klasse products for my polished aluminum rims once I try a new sealant. I may decide I don't even want to use a carnauba after the BFWD according to what I've read on here...but come on, like someone said 'waxes for guys are like shoes for women, you can never have too many' hahaha.

Perhaps some will disagree, I've basically just been using water + dawn to clean my pads and haven't had any issues with 105, 205, or the KAIO. I usually let them sit face down in some shallow soapy water...after a little while wring them out and swish them around a bit, try to work some of the product out of the pad...let it sit again for a little bit and repeat until I'm pretty satisfied.
