Newbie - Beginners Guide to Buffing/Polsihing anywhere?

Hi All,



I have a very sunfaded red car and would like to buff and polish the car to rejuvinate the paint work. Is there a step by step guide to buffing anywhere I could follow - I am worried about bruning thru the paint as I'm new to all this!!



I also need to buy a decent buffer ..is the PC 7424 the best bet and who has the best deals on this product. I am based in the UK

many thx I'll have to a read up on this. Is the PC only available in the US or is there a Uk supplier? wheres the best place to buy a PC from or whats a good target price? Also what other bits would you recommend purchasing eg. replacement heads etc - as assuming i'll be sourcing from the US it would pay me to get everything i need in one fowl swoop to save on postage cost.

I don't know about a UK supplier, but I DO know there are more than a few people from the UK on this board using the PC, so hopefully one of them will help you out.



In the meantime, here are 3 articles to help you use the PC. (The first is a Mequiar's write up on their G-100 Polisher, which is the PC by another name.)

The PC is only built for 120V power like we have here so they aren't sold "over there."



The guys who use them in the UK bought them from US suppliers and use transformers to convert the power.



Some folks have found other buffers to use.



If you do some searching you'll find discussions on the subject.

Most people here seem to get them from Autopia Carcare as they're about the cheapest, though you do need to add on about £50-60 to cover a 240-110v transformer and cables etc.



If you do some hunting here on a tool called a "Cyclo" you can get those in the UK (they look slightly different but AFAIK there is no real difference) for about £110 under the "Smartool" brand.



A third option (that I have) is to find someone in Finland, Sweden, Norway, or Denmark who will go to a DIY store called Biltema and buy one of their polishers - again they're the same as a Cyclo with variable speed and cost £20 plus shipping.

Ok many thanks people. Hutchinsp is the Cyclo and or the Biltema - the same as a PC 7424? If so do you have an existing connection near a Biltema store who could help me out?
