Newbie and got product questions

Got a silver Vette and a white Silverado (both cars are pretty new) and each of them have some swirls in the paint and some light scratching. I have the PC and the Sonus pads as well as 3M SMR for dark paints (recommended by Sal) and the Sonus Paintwork Cleanser. My sealant of choice is Zaino.

So my questions are:

1) Can I use the 3M SMR with the Green Sonus pad and at what speed should I have the PC set at?

2) Do I need to follow up the 3M SMR treatment with a polish and the blue Sonus pad or can I just apply the Zaino immediately afterwards?

3) Does anyone know if Zaino and Sonus Paintwork Cleanser work together?

Great site and thanks for any feedback.

First of all, SPC will pretty much negate the effects of the SMR. Your SMR will remove a few defects but will mostly just fill them, and its these fillers that will probably cause you to have bonding issues with the Zaino. Maybe more Zaino gurus can comment on this, since I've never used it.

SPC and Zaino should be fine since SPC is a cleaner/prep and doesn't contain any protectants.

You have a little bit of an issue here though because you can't really use your products together, that I can see. If you want to use your SMR, I would think that the Zaino should go directly on top of that, but we aren't sure about the bonding issues. On the other hand, if you want to use SPC, you really can't use the SMR because it will just be removed. Kind of a dilemma.

My advice, and keep in mind, this is just my opinion. I would buy a better polish, like 3M PI II RC and PI II MG and actually *remove* your paint defects instead of hide them, then clean up with SPC and apply the Zaino. That should produce a great looking product, jmho.

3M SMR has a lot of fillers in it? I thought it was supposed to actually remove swirls and light defects...not fill them.

The folks at Zaino recommended the 3M SMR so the two products are compatible.

If the manufacturer says they are compatible, then they must be. Good to know. Do you have Swirl Mark Remover or Machine Glaze? The SMR does have fillers, which may not be a bad thing if you don't want to go through the effort of polishing all the defects out, you just won't be able to use your SPC.
