Newb with some questions

I've been browsing this board for a while, but this is my first post.

I just recently applied some Meg's ColorX to my mom's 1998 Chrysler Sebring. I applied this after some Deep Crystal Cleaner; which leads me to my first question.

1.) Does anyone else find this stuff hard to use? I found that if I didn't work in small areas, and buff off right away, it was almost impossible to remove completely.

2.) On the ColorX bottle it says to cover the entire vehicle, and then let dry. How long exactly? I did the entire vehicle and then waited about 15 minutes while I did a search to see if I could find the answer. I'm wondering for when I do my dad's car, and my car, if I need to let it sit longer, or shorter.

3.) For some long-lasting protection, can I apply some SG? If I did this, would the AIO, remove the ColorX? Or should I just top it with some NXTx2, and then some S100?

4.) If I top NXT with S100 will the NXT Spray Wax still work properly?

I took some pics, but I was in the garage, and I'm not sure if they turned out so great, I tried to keep the lighting consistent in the before & after shots. I'll post them up shortly.

Thanks in advance,

I don't know the answers to most of your questions but I can say that wax cure times vary by weather conditions, among other things. Being in AZ your wax or sealant will dry/cure much quicker than other parts of the country due to the high heat and low humidity. So there is no hard and fast rule as to how long a product should dry. Instead, do the "finger test" - wipe your finger on some applied wax. If the wax comes off easily when wiping, its ready to be removed.

Your problems with removing dried wax is likely related to this. Try applying/removing products to small sections instead of applying to the entire car. This might work better for you.

Don't be afraid to experiment. Be creative, open your mind. Car detailing is more art than science.

I had no problems with the ColorX, it was incredibly easy to use. The bottle states to do the entire vehicle and let dry. It buffed off real easy after about 15 minutes and I didn't have to use and QD. I was having issues with the Deep Crystal Cleaner; it was really hard to remove. It was done at night in a garage.

1) sounds like you applied it too thick or in the sun. you should be using under 2oz/coat of wax.

2.) wait till it hazes over

3.)You will have to remove the color x to do AIO/SG

would the AIO, remove the ColorX? yes

4.)probably, although the spray wax is not that great anyway

1) I wouldn't use something like Deep Crystal 1 like a wax. I'd use it like every other polish and just use it one small section at a time and buff it off before it has a chance to dry (as you found out!). Most polishes will give you trouble if you wait for them to dry before buffing it off.

2) See Bret's post. :up

3) You could use AIO/SG after Colour X, but the AIO will remove the Colour X wax, or you could use NXT, or you could use S100.... or both. That's up to you. :)

Edited to add: Dang it, I wrote this whole thing thinking you were having trouble with ColorX removal. The Step 1 is a little mor difficult. But if you want to really challenge yourself, I think the hardest think I have to remove is the Zymol "Zurtle" wax. Sheesh, that's hard to get off. Back to my uninformed response that took a long time to type.

1 & 2. Sounds like your glopping it. Use as little as possible. If you miss a spot, get it later. Thin thin thin. You could let ColorX sit until tomorrow if you do it thin enough. If you glop it, you have a lot of cake to remove. The fine white dust is a byproduct of it's curing. When you get that, it's essentially done. If you are removing and it smears, then it's not done.

3. AIO and ColorX are similar products. SG, sealang glaze, is a pure sealant, it has no cleaners. SG would not remove ColorX. AIO would, but why would you use AIO after ColorX unless you were doing the same as doing AIO twice to make sure you really cleaned it. You could NXT, as it's mild cleaners wouldn't remove the ColorX, and besides, if it did remove some, the ColorX already did it's cleaner work. I don't see the need to try to get more than one layer of NXT per day/week. Just throw a layer on today and then next time you wash.

4. From reviews, I'm not sure if the NXT spray wax works properly anyhow. I suggest going to a local auto parts place and seeing if they can order you a gallon of Megiars Final detail. D-5101. And pick up a good spray bottle at home depot or something. Great QD cheap.

Sounds like your on the right track. I'm quite fond of ColorX. Mostly because it's a good product I can actually buy OTC without special ordering it. It's pretty durable too. Mine has lasted six weeks and beads great. Normally I'd not let it go that long, but I hurt my back at work.
