New Video and Website & Introduction

Hello Everyone:

After lurking here for many years and reading as much as I could. I've decided that it's time for me to break away from my full time job and being to detail professionally. After 3 years deciding whether or not I should follow my passion of working for myself and with automobiles, we have decided to give it a run. I'm still majority supported by my full time employer, however, as my client base builds I will slowly make the transition out.

In the past few weeks/months we have built a new website, filmed a video, created social media pages, and began marketing PPC ads online. We are thinking of flyers, brochures, contacting bodyshop, mechanic shops, auto dealers and the like to work deals where we can leave information at their locations. We have only lived in this town since December and both my wife and I work 50 miles away so we do not have much association with the folks that live nearby. Any recommendations on growing as quickly as possible are appreciated.

Please take a look at our website and view the video. Constructive criticism is always welcome. We know it's not flawless and appreciate any feedback you may have. There is a Google+ and Facebook button at the bottom of each page- since our site is new, it's not showing up very much on the search engines yet, so your likes are greatly appreciated if you would do so. Please don't forget to check out the portfolio! All of the photos we have are not yet up, they are all being edited now, but will be up once they are all done.

Thanks a million and here's the link. Reflections Auto Detailing- Serving Dover, Middletown, Smyrna, and Townsend.

All the best,

John

john, good luck with going full-time and welcome back here on the original, one and only autopia.org!

I really like that video.... nice job! Only thing I question is what looked like a shop rag being used on the wheels.

Good luck in growing your new venture!

Haha- No worries there, I actually have 4" x 4" microfiber towels. Very convenient when you don't need a 16" towel!

Thanks BigAl and Charles

I actually loved that video! I fely like I was watching a Chevy Commerical on detailing. I think this is one of the best I have seen yet. Its not long winded, Its very short and to the point. It show all the steps in a basic detail nicely. Great marketing video for sure! Man I need one of these.

Welcome to Autopia.....grab a chair and hangout for as long as you want! I agree with everyone else....that video just reeks of awesomeness! I really like the music and the shot of the polisher working the paint......Oscar quality material right there!!

Definitely nice to see another MidATL joining us!

:welcome:

:welcome Working for yourself is 1 of the best things you can do. The video and website look really professional, I like the song choice to the video like others said It feels like a car detailing commercial

Nice video, but I think your prices are way to low to survive

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all of your kind words about the video and the website. I was completely blown away with this video when I saw it and couldn't have asked for more! I wouldn't be a good friend if I didn't put it out there that the video was done by Will Hyler from Hyler Productions. If you are interested in ever having a video done like this, please PM me for his information.

Flash: I'm not sure about pricing yet or where I should be exactly. I don't have a great feel for this market yet, but I price competitively for my marketplace. This is something that I'm still figuring out.

Underdawg: Thanks for the welcome. I was previously on ClubLexus as a Lexus GS400 (hence the name) owner, and agree the the MidATL is a great place to work and be!

Thanks again all!!!

Yes another one! haha- and you would think with the months that it took me to settle on a name that with the frequency of use of this name, it would have been easy.

Automania: It helps to have friends that are professional videographers. We traded- I helped him rake, shovel and dump rock and plant new grass seed for his wedding and he shot a video for me :D

Thanks JPostal!

body copy font is really small and leading is unnecessarily wide; although it does make the site look very modern and clean just difficult to read.

sick vid for sure-did feel it was pushing chevy more than detailing....consider redoing with a variety of cars instead of so much focus on a malibu.

double your pricing. Ok maybe not, but I don't think your prices are constructed from analyzing your costs.

your portfolio is lacking some essentials like before/afters and 50/50 correction shots. These will validate you as a service provider and get people to make the mental connection that "hey, my car looks like that photo and he cleaned it up perfectly, now I want mine done!"

as for finding business: go where the money is. Approach condos and country clubs.

Great Video ...was it affordable?

Really affordable for me. The videographer is a very close friend. I helped with a lawn care project and he shot an amazing video for me. If you would like his information, please PM me.

TS- Thanks for your review and it is greatly appreciated. I pulled the pricing off of my site because after reviewing my cost this weekend, I'm not making nearly enough money. Not taking things into consideration, I was making far less an hour than I believed to be. Switching from a full time job to this, I obviously cannot afford to be losing money.

Unfortunately for me, I'm the web designer and image editor so as updates need to be made and pics need to be posted I'm the one doing that. I am still composing before/after photos and getting them to fit the website parameters for the larger photos. But I agree, these are 100% necessary to gain business.

For those of you who are stationary- what are your avenues for finding business. Postcards typically yield a very low % and can be costly but do work if done properly, what about leave behinds at auto shops (i.e. pepboys, autozone etc..)?

Thanks in advance.

It's been my expierence that if I offer a wash. people start wanting nothing but washes. Unless I can charge someone $100 (or more) I'm losing money everytime

Offer the deluxe detail (one step + thorough interior cleaning) as your starter package
