So, I'm new to the business of car detailing. This summer im hoping to start a job doing it and i figured i need any help i can get. So if you could drop me some hints, trick, marketing help info. any of that kinda stuff to get me started, that would be greatly appreciated. Ive detailed before and i seem to have a great eye for detail so i can pick out a lot of things people pass up. So if you could just give me any tips, tricks, or starting ideas to help. Thanks

Welcome.

The best advice I can give you is read up on the forums, do your research, be professional, do not undercut yourself and practice until you know detailing inside and out before starting a business.

Good luck!

First of all, welcome to Autopia. You will find that the people here are very friendly, so please go ahead and post often. We are all here to help.

As far as starting a job doing detailing, I would say that usually, it is a good idea to go with the least aggressive product first. Sometimes you will be tempted to break out the heavy duty artillery, however it would be much better to do only what is necessary to get the best results. That is always a rather safe and conservative approach.

Please keep us posted on your job progress.

I've said this before on other start-up threads, but the most important thing about running a detailing business is being able to sell yourself. If you look, feel, and act professional, you will be more successful than if you are really good at what you do but cannot talk to clients.

Be a great detailer, have the passion for it, but be an amazing salesman and market yourself and not the product. The people you are trying to sell your service too probably already know what detailing is (the majority of people scoff at spending $200 to "clean" a car), so as long as you can display confidence in yourself as a detailar you will do well.

Agreed.

Search around this forum and I tell ya, you can make about 5 big books worth of info on how to start a detailing business, plus a billion tips on of course, actual detailing.

Good luck and welcome to Autopia. :xyxthumbs

I too am looking to start a small business on the side this summer for some extra cash. Mostly trying to market boat detailing since I have experience from working at a marina. Autopia has taught me more about detailing than I ever thought was possible! Keep browsing...everyday you find something new and different! Lots of luck with the business! :2thumbs:

awesome, thanks for the help so far. Autopia is really awesome, it has amazing information on "how to's" what not to do etc etc.. The positive feedback helps the most. im looking foward to what this job has to offer.

I wonder if you need some sort of insurance when you professionally work on cars from the general public (not just friends/family). What if you mess up and the car ends up needing repainting?
