New (to me) Garage

Just purchased my first home about a month ago. Now looking to make the garage my own little detail, have fun, workshop place. I am getting the whole house re wired this weekend. Don't have enough power to run the compressor and a light at the same time. So while were at that, I figured I should get the lighting up in the garage. I have read some good info on the forum. Yet am still not sure how many lights to get and how to place them. I know I want to do ceiling only. Looking at the T8's, maybe 6 or so? As you can see the garage has an old light up in the center of the garage. I am going to replace that with a newer T8 but am unsure where to place the rest.

Going to get some replacement windows for the three you see. Paint the mouldings around the windows black and get some shades for when I don't want people looking in.

Painting the ceiling white and the walls a light silver. Not sure what color to do the floor yet, or even what product to use.

Any input on ideas would be great. I know I don't have the best pictures of the ceiling but this is all I had on the computer.

What are your thoughts on leaving the left side of the garage brick (seen in the first pic)? Or spend the extra time and money and drywall the left side? Some people think it's a neat aspect of the garage, yet it may not flow with the black and silver colors!

Looks like you have a good start as is and I like the exposed brick. Be sure to get "daylight bulbs" for the lights.

Nice rides BTW!

Got bord and went to Lowes tonight. Ended up getting 7 (that's all they had) 48" T8lights for the garage. They are made by Utilitech and have a black housing. Pretty cheap in price so I'm not sure how they will do.

May get another to make it an even number, or do 3 on each side and one in the middle. Should I do 3 long ways facing the front and back of the garage or 3 sideways facing the sides of the garage?

As for bulbs, I could not decide on the 4100k or 6500k and their 6500k were at 75 CRI.

Had to throw in a detaild pic.....always get more responses with pics! lol

Really? I'm not sure why, but when I'm looking at the lights at HD or Lowes the blue looks brighter! Yet I have never used them in real conditions like detailing a car.

Here is my set up....a little over kill though. I went with (8) 8' lights (don't think they were T8's) and 6500k bulbs.

Looks good^ Maybe I will get a few more then. I'll look around for bulbs. Where is a good place to get bulbs at? Just Home Depot and Lowes or something like Walmart/Target.

Thanks, may have to sell the S2000 CR after buying the new home. Hope not though! Color is amazing!

For the floor this is supposed to be the best stuff around: Armorclad Epoxy Floor Coating

My friend used the red with black, white and grey flakes in his garage and it turned out great. It seems expensive at first but if you shop around it's actually not since it comes with everything you need.

I will try to get him to send me some pics. I know he said it was pretty easy to apply, the customer service was good, and he is very happy with it.

Nice looking vehicles and congratulations on the home purchase.

Pics of my buddies garage as promised:

So far he really likes it. It's supposed to hold up to jack stands, etc.

Edit: They make it in blue too!

One more with the toys:

His truck fits in there too.

Looks good. Thank you for the pictures. Lot's of flakes....Like you said the Master pack with everything in it, does not seem like a bad price at all.

No problem. Always glad to help a fellow autopian out.

Here is what my friend said about the flake:

"I only used half of what they sent me. And you don’t need to use it if you don’t want. Theres an anti skid in the clear coat so the flake is really just decorative."

Yeah I just read on the site, they give you about 6lbs of flakes lol. Ha yep, I have not got a chance to race the S2000 CR yet though :(

Got some bulbs tonight, when you just have one light on, they don't look like they produce that much light. I hope when all 10 are up on the ceiling they are bright enough to light up the garage.

Here is a pick of the exposed brick on the left wall. Can't decide what to do with it.

Also looking to clean up around the garage door. The wires and such.

You can see there is one, t12 with 40 watt fixture up now. Not much light at all when the garage door is shut. Pic's takin with two other H lights on.

Got the Ceiling painted yesterday and installed the first 2 lights out of 10. These 2 are on the main switch from inside of the home. A switch in the garage by the new box and breakers will turn on the rest of the 8 lights.

Next is to hand the rest of the lights, fix small holes and the big ones you see by the new box, and smooth out the old dirty walls.

Any ideas on a trim piece I can use to go from the drywall to the floor? That bare concrete and how the drywall is all chipping away at the bottom looks ehh.

Got a little progress!

After: Floor sucks, but once it's warmer the coating can go on.

Crappy Wall Socket Cover, but it's the only thing that would work at the moment.

The 10 T8's.....Going to have to think of a way to clean up the wires.

4165315056_7f361ee235_b.jpg

Any ideas on a trim piece for the base? One wall has a gap as seen int he second picture. So I was thinking of a flexible rubber type molding, but my dad thinks it will look like ***. Also the floor slopes down the whole way to the garage door for drainage.

Some evenly spaced staples or clamps would go a long way to cleaning up the wires.

I would try painting the concrete baseboard the same color as the wall untill you find something more permanent.

I would fix any chipping drywall with mud, caulk the seam/gap and paint the concrete base same as the floor when you do it. It would look clean and hold up better to stuff bumping into it then base or trim would.

For the wires staples as mentioned above or those plastic hat channel covers for hiding power/cable wires would work well and you could paint them to match the ceiling.
