new TL, meguiars questions

neighbor just took delivery of a 05 TL, silver..for first coat I was planning on just putting a layer of NXT on but it was sugessted that maybe a coat of cleaner/wax would be best beforehand.





do i go cleaner/wax or just a coat of nxt??

Personally, I would clay the car first, then apply the NXT. While cleaner/wax does have its place (somewhere...) in detailing, I'm not convinced that it is on an '05 vehicle.
 
Before I put on a sealant or wax I would clay the car. Even new cars pick up a lot of contaminants during transport and on the lot. These won't come off just from washing and you'll just seal them in if they're not removed. This link to one of the learn articles here on autopia explains it better than I can. Then I would go with a sealant or wax.
