Today I was in the Auto section at my local Wal-Mart and what do I find? Cotton Chenille Mitts made by Turtle Wax!!! My local Wal-Mart no longer carries the Viking brand but now has these mitts. They say "Cotton Chenille" on the package and they are very, very soft. In fact they are the softest chenille mitt I have ever felt! The price was right too at $2.97 each. So check out the Auto section at Wal-Mart for the Turtle Wax Cotton Chenille mitts my fellow Autopians, I think you will be impressed.:xyxthumbs

P.S- I will test these mitts over the weekend and have a full review next week. :up

burst your bubble, BUT I've seen those at AutoZone as well. I thought they might be a good substitute for Vikings until I read the fine print, "Made in Pakistan, Bangladesh, OR India." Maybe you found something different, but I don't trust cotton products from those sources...so I left them on the shelf...

Buyer beware...

Mine says made in China. I've never seen them at my AutoZone, but then again my local AutoZone does not stock a darn thing.

I saw them at Walmart as well. They were very soft but I was unsure if they were true 100% cotton. I look forward to your review.

Just like towels be very careful of cotton items not make in the USA. Maybe try a burn test first to make sure. Looking forward to your review.......

I've been using Turtle Wax cotton chenile wash pads for about a year. They also claim 100% cotton. Been using them on my Vette, Cherokee and Prelude along with Zaino Z-7 car wash and haven't seen nary a mark on any of the cars. I also stocked up on Viking wash pads but the nap is much shorter on the Viking so I've kept using the Turtle Wax pads for now.

Thanks for the info Dan! Maybe they are decent and I'm too paranoid....the nap was pretty thick and soft, but that's not always a good indicator, thus my caution.

SL,

The "burn" test as I know it is, burn part of the cotton and if you see black smoke, it's not all coton and likely some poly. If it IS all cotton it should burn clean with no black smoke. OR, if you get a clean flame like a candlewick then it is 100% cotton. If you see black smoke and melted fibers, then you got one of the non 100%, anxiously waiting to scratch your paint type of products.

ShowroomLincoln,

Take a match or lighter to the tip of one of your cotton towels. It should "burn". If it "melts," it contains polyester thread.

Do you think Wal-Mart would mind an in store test?:D

Sunday's headline: "Local Wal-Mart burns, suspect seen leaving in an unusually clean car mumbling I guess it was real cotton"

i have one and I can say that it is really nice...I bought it the first day that they put that new line of TW products out(I bought the three MF's too) really plush and makes a fine lather...my truck is brand new so I could tell if it was harming the paint and it hasn't made one swirl yet...can't beat 2.97

Bad News fellas, they did not pass the burn test. I got some melting and black smoke ie. some poly content. Oh well, in the garbage can with this mitt.

P.S.-- I also tried Viking 100% cotton mitt and got the same black smoke.

I also got the same thing when I burned the 100% cotton viking mitt. It gave off black smoke and got hard and cripsy. Also, I picked up a mitt from napa which was supposed to be 100% cotton and pulled out a few threads and burned them and they burned like paper, no smoke, only thing that was left was a little grey ash. The mit does look like it has cotton seeds in it though.

Yea, I have some new Levi's that say 100% cotton on them, too. So how do they explain the metal zipper? :nixweiss It's all "marketing" and "interpetation". Just like "100% carnuba".

The search for the perfect wash mitt continues!;)

Thanks for the testing and reports Showroom. Suprised no one else here previously tried the burn test on the supposedly good Vikings. The search continues I guess.

I've seen TW chenile wash pads in my local Auto Zone. They had two kinds, one bigger and made in China and a smaller one made in USA. I pulled some fibers from both and did a burn test outsidethe store. The one made in US passed it - no melted fibers, no black smoke, it felt different too so I'm sure it was 100% cotton. The bigger "chinese" pad wasn't. I hope this helps.

I didn't/wouldn't burn my viking mits but I tried burning this claim to be 100% cotton, had the cotton symbol and everything mit.

It was made by a company called ezone, it was a litle small and had cotton seeds left in it like the old cmas but it just got a little toasty it never melted at all.
