New Poorboys Test Sample - Spray and Gloss!

Steve was kind enough to send me a sample of his new test product 'Spray and Gloss' with my order this week. I have a good feeling about this product, because the last few new products introduced have been home runs (APC, Super Slick & Suds, and Spray & Rinse).

It's supposed to warm up over the weekend, so I'll have a chance to try it out, and compare it to 4* Ultimate Gloss Enhancer, and Optimum Car Wax, which I currently use most often.

I'll share my opinion next week.

Yea, I have Adam's too (and really like it a lot).

Lot's of competition -let the games begin!

Steve, Is Spray and Gloss intended to:

a) Use as a QD to remove light dust?
b) Rejouvenate the 'slickness' of your topper in between seal/wax jobs?
c) Offer additional protection (UV, polymer, carnuba, etc..)
d) Other?

almost all of the above:lmfao ...no carnauba or UV but it has polymers and silicones, some cleaners and enhancers to make its own shine and make previous applied products last longer....it will not strip anything other than light surface dirt and dust...I would still recommend using a cleaner like Spray and Wipe or a car wash if there is real dirt so that you don't mix dirt in with LSP's.
It's also completely safe for any surface, other than cloth and we made the final color ,one that will not look like something a child (or over enthusiast;) )would want to eat:nono

I am about to test a sample Steve sent. A big storm is heading to Atlanta so I will likely wait until that comes through so I can have some decent pics.

I havee tried it on the front fender and it seems terrific so far...

I suppossed to get a sample with my order tomorrow. hehehe

I can't wait. Although they changed the weather forcast AGAIN, and now we have more rain. :angry

Steve-I'm probably putting another coat of Natty's on Dad's Vette on Sunday, how long after Natty's should I wait to do S&G on the Vette? 24hrs?

It was around 35 degrees on Saturday, so I jumped at the chance to try out spray & gloss.

It was tested it on 3 vehicles:

-CTS, white, topped with EX-P and #16. Maintained with Optimum, twice weekly after washes.
-Tahoe, black, topped with UPP and #16. Maintained with Optimum, weekly after washes.
-Minivan, burgundy, topped with UPP. Maintained with 4* UGE weekly after washes. (My neighbors wanted to test S&G too)

I used all 8oz of the sample S&G. - Sorry Luv-N-It !

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical that spray and gloss could outperform the 3 products that I currently use most often: Adam's Detail Spray, 4* UGE, and Optimum Car Wax. That said, I tried all 3 of these products side by side with spray and gloss on the CTS and Tahoe.

Packaging/Directions: Typical Poorboys. Basic packaging, and simple easy to use directions. Spray and Gloss can be used in sun or shade like most other PB products. I have a cold, so I have no idea what it smells like, but PB products always have a very appealing smell (IMO). The only thing that I didn't like was the spray nozzle. It wasn't bad, but I find the Adam's sprayer superior, and you also use substantially less product. The worst sprayer of the group was 4*. My 4* sprayers (3 of them) all drip, have an uneven spray pattern, and tend to use a lot of product.

Application: Applied to all surfaces (paint, glass, trim, wheels, etc...) after car wash to a slightly wet surface (after using a leaf blower). I misted each panel, and wiped it dry. I immediately noticed a difference in Spray and Gloss compared to Optimum in this step. I only needed 1 WW towel, and quickly achieved a VERY slick high gloss finish and it was SREAK FREE!!!! Very impressive!

I use 4* UGE and Adams on completely dry surfaces. That said I tested these two against S&G on the hoods of the CTS and Tahoe after the dry step. I'm a big fan of slickness and clarity/gloss and S&G wins this battle. If EX-P+ is this slick, I can't wait to try it! I was really amazed to see S&G perform this well.

I don't put as much priority on protection because I'm always tinkering around with products on my vehicles. That said, I know 4* UGE, Optimum, and S&G all offer some form of protection, but I'm probably not the person to ask about it because I just don't leave my paint alone long enough to properly evaluate product durability. I also tested a small section using S&W, then S&G and this produced an even slicker feeling finish. (IMO S&W and S&G are an awesome combo, and achieve the BEST results).

To to summarize my results according to what I find most important (slickness and clarity/gloss):

Slickness:
1) Spray and Gloss
2) Optimum
3) Adams
4) 4* UGE

Clarity/Gloss:
1) Spray and Gloss & Optimum (tie)
2) Adams
3) 4* UGE

It will be interesting to see the pricing for S&G. It's an exceptional product and defiantly worth trying. I hope Steve puts it on sale this week, because I want to order some!

thanks for the testing John ....we rarely compare, we just try to make the best product we can.

and yes Lee ...it will come in 5 gallons ;)

No problem. Thanks for another great product!

Are you going to announce pricing any time soon?

At this rate, I might not be able to afford college for my son, but we'll sure have a shiny trailer to live in.

Pricing will be the same as Spray and Wipe , but there will be introductory pricing on the 16oz size for those who just want to try a small bottle.

Well there is always community college;) :lmfao

Hopefully it will be here and be able to be shipped in time for the weekend...I'm hoping it'll arrive at the warehouse by Thurs:kneel

What is Spray and Gloss to be used as?? Is it more of a QD or a step up as a waterless wash like Spray and Wipe???

Just curious in what type of application it would be used.

Sounds like a great product.

It's more of a QD with a polymer too, it does have some light cleaning ability but it will not replace Spray and Wipe.

For application, it can be used to maintain the slickness and gloss of a LSP, it can also create it's own shine, and what many people will find it's best quality is that you should spray a little on after a wash and before drying to help prevent micro-marring and it makes drying effortless while bringing out great shine and slickness.

Just to add to Steve's last comment. I've had my Tahoe in the garage since Saturday, and little to no dust has collected on the paint surfaces.

I tried some S&G on my hood last night. It seemed to work great. I think tonight the Legend and Vette will get S&W followed by S&G.
