New paint washing

I just had a rear spoiler painted the other day for my wagon (Last monday) They told me its good to go because they baked it... Does that mean I can wax it up? I figured i should wait... but what about washing it? I know i should be carefull not to scratch but what about soaps to use.. I have right now Eagle One Wet.. That has wax in it no?

I have the same question. Just got the front bumper repainted on the tC, and I was told they baked it, and said it would be fine to wash and wax it anytime. Is this true?

Wash yes, wax no. New paint should not be waxed for about 90 days. There is a technical reason, I'm sure someone will explain the details. My understanding fresh paint releases a gas as a natural curing process.

But I have the entire drivers side door done-Look for my before pics-keyed to the max-

Im dying to wash- glaze polish-I was told to do only half the car and wash gently????

for first month- but ok to wash as it was baked...

Body shop "baking" does not fully cure the paint. It merely brings to a "workable" state faster so they can sand, cut, buff and get it out the door.

Treat it like you would any new re-spray. Don't use any wax or sealant until after the cure period.

Washing and polishing (with fresh paint safe products) are fine.

PC.

is the cure period? Its a MB and they used Dupont paint?

tks

and those movies u sent were fantasitc-

I still need to know the correct procedure-afer Ummm5 years?

wash and dry ( i do correctly)

then menzerna for spider webs

wax

when do i clay or glaze? totally confused as this year i want to "do it" right instead of just throwing $$$$ out-

I think its all technique- I watched the guys at the body shop that repainted my car and I had a scratch-they used a wax/galze or compound i would consider "cheap" and never use and it came out flawlessly....

Yeah, I wish the Autopia powers-that-be would make a sticky of that thread with MirrorFinishMan's info from the paint companies.

Many painters give out incorrect advice about the curing period, go by what the paint makers say (and they all say the same thing). Since the potential problem is just that the paint won't get as hard as it oughta, it's not like most people would ever notice there's an issue (consider that most cars are all marred up anyhow).

Short answer: Yeah you can wash. Yeah you can polish, but the paint will be a little soft for the first few weeks. Use the #5/etc. for three months.
