New one for me

Been away for a while. Took on a full-time job while building my detailing biz and haven't detailed for money in a while. Last week a lady called me about a detail, after inspecting/pricing I told her my open date and we agreed.

Decent shape 2 yr old car, cleaned reguarly by a local tunnel wash. Minor swirls and needed some wax. Get everything done, lady inspects and agrees that the vehicle looks better than new and even wants me to come do her husbands vehicle. She pays me, I drive down the street and notice a $10 tip.

The "good" part, I check my voicemail the next day and instead of her calling to tell me a good day to detail her husbands car she starts chewing me out (on voicemail) about her mirrors being out of wack. I called back and asked if I broke something, she's says no but they weren't set the way they used to be and she wanted her $10 tip back. At a loss for words, I said okay and promptly drove over and gave her her $10 back.

Useless post....just thought you guys might enjoy...

That is pretty unbelievable. That is like going to a restaurant, and leaving a tip, only to call them the next day and say the food didnt agree with you stomach, and you want your tip back. I mean I have heard of aligning the AC vents all the same, but resetting the mirrors back to the oringinal postion, cmon. Even if she had to reset them, it took her all of 30 seconds, and for that she wants her tip back. Sorry for the rant, but that is crazy.

Oh boy.... now that is a bit extreme.

I guess I'm gonna start telling people "Just so you know, everything I touch is gonna move -- AC controls, vents, seats, steering wheel, mirrors... if I'm going to thoroughly clean them they will probably be knocked out of alignment."

I don't put stuff back exactly because I like to return a vehicle looking aesthetically nice -- meaning everything even, level, and symmetrical as much as possible.

Sounds crazy to me too. Where is her pride? How can you know exactly how the mirrors were adjusted?

You were nice to bring her the tip back. A tip is something you should not have to return IMO. She gave it to you and that means she liked what you did. She should never have given it to you in the first place if she had something to complain about.

I don't even know what to say about that. I'm curious, what happened when you brought her the tip back? Did she say anything to you?

Wow she has some big ones to ask for her tip back . I wonder if she'll call you back to detail her car again , charge her extra if she does. :D

Actually, she told me she would be leaving and put it in the mailbox. I wrote a check, stuck in a envelope and stuck it through her mail slot.

I gave her the money back because I have an ad in her/my church flyer and I get roughly 2-3 calls a month from it... don't need to burn any bridges oven $10 stinking dollars.

I know the mirrors weren't pointing in some ridiculous manner, I never need to move them that much for cleaning. AC vents are another story; after I clean them I point them all straight for a clean look.

Watch out for those mirros...

hehehe that seems pretty bad. I do however count how many seconds it takes to move the seats when they are power, so they can go back to almost the correct position when done. But the mirrors...wow never thought about that one...

That's insane. And to think she's married? Ugh, the poor guy to have to wake up next to that every morning.

:har:

She has a very strange attitude for such a minor event, especially from someone that attends church. I guess in this woman's case, her attendance is just for show. Obvious she doesn't practice what taught in the sermons.

The sad part is even though she was very pleased with your detailing, she will only opin about the mirrors needing re-adjustment. Your great work will get lost in the BS about the mirrors. :furious:

Then again others at church will view your work and realize here ranting and raging about the mirror is, as it is, extremely swallow minded. It possibily may lead to more work. :buffing:

This experience just goes to show that you can't please everyone. I have been a practicing veterinarian for 27 years, and have found that there are some people not worth having as clients. One way to avoid a certain amount of these people is to have above average fees, so that people choose you because they want to see you, not because you are "a good deal." Nonetheless, situations like you describe happen occasionally, even in a highly selected clientele. The funny thing is it always makes me feel kind of bad, even when I know I was completely in the right.

I have never heard anything like that before. Maybe she was having a bad day but still why would she think of getting the $10 tip back. That's just crazy.

had she been driving a Limited ZJ the mirrors would have returned to their pre-set position. hehe, nice to see you on here!

OR if mirror contacts for the memory feature were dirty they would point straight down... and you can wetsand your Jeep. Not sure if you saw my post on JU?

Beat this, I got a call Sunday and it was a referral from the lady above. We talked a little while, once I found out they were neighbors I kindly told her I'm booked for the next month...
