New MF find

Ok, I am a newbie so I dont know a lot about MF towels.

Having said that. I have some that I bought at Autozone, they are viking.

I saw the NicSand at Pep Boys today.

I almost bought the pack from Target last week.

But today, beleive it or not, my wife came home with one from the grocery store to use in the kitchen that may be the best one of all.

here are the details, you tell me if it is a good deal or not.

80% Polyester/20% polyamide

16" x 24"

Feels to be 2-3 times thicker then the viking towel I bought at Autozone. Shoot it is almost as plush as my bath towels.

It is being marketed under the name "Kitchen Millennium" and she bought it at Kroger. Says it is 100% Microfiber. Manufactured in Korea and distributed by Excello Products.

Cost was all of $3.50

I will try it this weekend. She actually bought it so that she could make bonnets for my PC. I know I am going to want lots of them.

Anyway I know you guys are diehard Yosteve fans and thats cool. I dont know what size his towels are, so I dont know if this is a better option or not.

Well, I have attached a quick photo I just took as well to make it easier to picture

Well, these are on a temporary display at Kroger, so dont know if they will carry them all the time or if they are just doing a test market.

I know many times, I have seen the same product marketed in different ways at vastly different prices.

While a car nut may be willing to pay $12 for a towel, that same car nut would have a core meltdown if his wife came home and said she paid $12 for a dish towel. I know I would. :-)

Anyway, I think that may be the case here.

I think I may be able to get 4 bonnets for my PC out of this towel, so lets see 4 bonnets for $3.50. Ok, $4.00 need to buy some elastic. vs $25 - $30 if I get the premade Viking brand.

Really makes you wonder how much of a mark up there is in this stuff.

haha, yah.

A product for cleaning the kitchen, $3.

Hey, it works great for automobiles. I'll mark it up 5x and sell it to those auto enthusiast suckers.

Could you please rub this towel back and forth on a CD [that you don't need] 20 times or so and look at it closely and tell us if there are scratches or other marring on the CD?

Thanks!

Wow, never knew a CD could be so clean.

I cannot find a single scratch on it.

already sent my wife back to the store to by 10 more of these towels. At $3 a pc, no way Im going to find better deal.

And when she sews them into bonnets, wow am I going to save money.

Nick

Although pictures can be deceiving, that looks to be about the plushness of a NicSand towel. What is nice about this towel is the size - that's a nice size towel for the money. NicSand-type quality towels are great for buffing out leather, cleaning glass, wiping down the interior, etc.

Looks like a pretty good deal.

Artic - The towels are much more plush than the NicSand. How much more is hard to say, perhaps twice!

As for lint - well I havent used it for anything yet or washed it, so I can say. Tell you what though. Sure lets me know how rough my hands must be. Catches every little piece of raised skin. I'm sure you know the feeling Im talking about.

What is the best way to test for lint? After washing? While using?

There is no visible lint when I shake the crappola out of it right now.

One way to see if the towel will lint is to spray a panel, your hood if you like, with a QD and run the towel in one direction and then back again. It appears to not really make a lot of difference one way or the other if you spritz the towel first or not, IMO. In my experience with linting towels it always happens on the return stroke and then continues to happen from there. There are a couple ways around the lint that have also worked for me. The Nicsand towels are a good deal for non exterior paint use but I have yet to see the super market type you have there, (nicksr). I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one.

Ok, well I went and used the QD that came with my Clay and did the hood. Wiping down with the MF towel. Not a spot of lint to be found.

Well that sounds good nick, maybe this brand of towel may be ok. Did you notice if the towel appeared to drag across the paint at all or did it glide smoothly? How exactly did you QD with regard to any level of dampness of the towel before you started?

I used the towel dry.

sprayed the QD on the hood of the car and then rubbed mopped it up with the towel.

The towel absorbed it and became damp, which allowed me to do the other side of the hood without spraying any QD on it.

Of course, the hood was clean already since I had just detailed it yesterday while experimenting with Clay.

There was friction, but that seemed to mostly come from the dampness. But I am no expert.

I suggest if there is a Kroger in your area, go grab a towel and try it out.

As soon as my hose thaws this morning, I plan on doing my car and will let you guys know how it does.

Where in NC do you live. I live in Danville Va and I went into my local Kroger - no luck :(. I would like to try one of these MF's since I am a 100% USA cotton towel user and flannel for final detailing.

Good find if everything you state continues to be true. Are you ready to state your own MF shipping company?;)

Well, I am down in Raleigh, so that is a drive.

I went to Kroger this am. They have the towels in a display up near the cashiers. This tells me it is probably temporary.

As for the shipping company. Well let me see how long it takes for my wife to sew the bonnets. LOL

We use to manufacture clothing, so if need be, I have some girls that could sew bonnets up at their house at a piece rate.

So, who knows.

PS - Can someone tell me what size the towels are that YoSteve sells?

You big city guys get all the good stuff first.:) Tell all your car care friends in the Raleigh/Durham area to buy these up so that Kroger will expand to us small market areas. :D

Yea, but you live next to the greates road racing track on the east coast. Ever run your car there?

Not yet, but I intend someday to purchase a older BMW or Miata and race showroom stock when the economy becomes more stable. I have attended several races there and it is a very beautiful circuit!!! It remains me of a large Limerock Park ( Conn.).

Like PL Newman my racing career will start late in life. Some people play golf when they retire, I will race:D
