New Jet Black Paint Scratched

Picked up my new 135i a couple days ago. Dealer did not do any sort of prep (wax), just a wash.

The paint looks good, but if you throw the Halogen lights on it, it looks really bad...especially for being brand new

I've got some Menzerna SIP on the way with an orange pad and a white pad, however I'm scared of messing the paint up. Should I take it to the dealership and have them fix this, or should I try using my Flex polisher with the SIP.

Here's one area on the passenger door. I tryed some po106ff nano polish, but did not do a thing.

Funk dat! Even the "high class" dealerships like BMW still use retards to do their work. You are better off investing your own time and fixing it. I mean, I'd be pissed that it was like this to begin with, but then I also think about the ride the cars been through from Deutschland.

UPDATE!!!

I went to the dealership, I printed the pics above to show the detail manager. Honestly, you really can't see these scratches in the light. Only if you look really close...really close.

So I asked him what he would do, he said he would buff out the whole door. I asked him if he used Halogen lights, he said no, the light in his open bay shop gets really good sunlight so thats good.

He asked what I used on my paint because it looked really good. I said I used Zaino, he had never heard of that:rolleyes:

I new then this would be a job I will tackle myself.

I'm going to use my Flex 3401 with some Menzerna SIP with a white pad first, if I have to step to an orange pad I will, then finish with the finishing polish...hopefully all will be good.

You guys are right about the dealership.... I'm better off doing this myself....

Your garage floor looks like what I want to do when I finally get a house. Congrats on the car, those 1s are really neat.

I would say go the dealership MAKE them pay for a quoted repair from a pro in your area and go from there If youre uncomfortable doing it with your flex. I would be enraged if that were me, youre probably handling it better. Good luck

BMW Jet Black paint should be banned. It should come with a warning label. No matter what you do to it it'll always have visible imperfections after you drive it. Our X3 is Jet Black, and I've just given up. Yeah it looks great right after a clay/machine polish/sealant job, and then one drive and it looks like someone took a sandblaster to it. The worst paint ever.

I agree, I'm glad my jet black 328i is a lease, I can't wait to return this car as the paint on it swirls if you look at it funny.

You have to keep in mind that 95% of the population doesn't care about swirls and seeing marks under halogen lamps, therefore the dealers don't either. Not saying it's right just why I think the dealers don't go out of their way to make cars "perfect"

That being said, the only way to get it how you like it is to do it yourself unfortunately. I can see if there is a huge scratch but stuff that can be polished out I wouldn't go back to the dealer, they will probably make it worse.

That being said, compared to most of you I'm not a OCD detailer. I wax twice a year, wash once every 2 weeks. I just do enough so the truck doesn't get paint damage, not to keep it perfect. I can garantee if you look at my black truck it's swirl city, but I'm OK with that becuase it's superficial swirls that can wait until my next detail.

But my point is, for you OCD detailers, DON'T go back to the detailer to make your car perfect, will NEVER happen. My truck had dealer installed swirls, I didn't bother taking it back
