new honda civic - orange peel / color difference on bumpers, some swirls

My civic was delivered with some minor interior scratches and very few hardly detectable swirls on exterior

What I find strange is the rear lights have more significant swirls and I know I didn't cause them

Also the rear and front bumper look like they were repainted - significantly more orange peel and slightly different in color

Rear bumper more so, and the fit of the bumper is just ever so slightly off

Does any of this bother me - not really

But what would bother me is if the dealership is lying and the car is not new or read damaged and I wasnt informed. If it came like this from factory then OK, but Honda needs to do a bit better

Is it better to let go of this suspicion? Not sure how to handle this, appreciate your advice's

Personally, I would call-in the Honda District Manager for your area to look at the paint and assess your concerns.

Bypass the Dealership if you can.

It isn't terribly unusual for some cars to have some mismatch on the bumper paint color/texture. The plastic pieces are typically not painted on the same line as the bodyshell. Paint for plastic parts requires flex agents and other chemicals that paint for metal doesn't. The paint is not from the same "bucket" so to speak. If you're concerned that the bumper fitment issue is due to an accident or bodywork I can tell you that Civic's are not assembled with great care. My wife bought hers new in 2009 and 34,000 miles later it is falling apart. Neither door lines up (or has ever lined up) properly, the bumpers are a bit off, one side of the trunklid is higher than the other, the panel gaps are uneven in some spots, the interior is buzzy etc. I took a walk around the lot in 2010 and it was pretty much the norm. The Accords were only slightly better.

I bought an Accord coupe V6 new in 2003 and it fell apart on me as well. The brake rotors warped, the clutch vibrated on take-up, the window trim fell off while driving down the road, if it sat parked during a rain storm the rear passenger footwell would fill up with water, the A/C condenser drain was improperly installed so when the A/C ran for extended periods it would drain into the front passenger footwell soaking the carpet, the headliner contacted the windshield with a nice crunch every time you hit a bump, the paint on the wheel barrels started flaking. I could go on and on.

Ouch ... That is terrible

I had some minor fit / finish issues with my prior 05 civic but just on the interior

Car was rock solid and then head gasket blown at 120k

.. Had it repaired but just wasnt the same after,

Was disappointing because I serviced the car religiously

Went with Honda again as this one is a lease, and like the new design

Really believe now that after about 5 years with a car it's often a steep downhill, seems quality isn't like it used to be

I'm glad to know they are improving. I think the majority of folks who have owned Honda's would report that they are +/- bulletproof. Overall, get the car checked out but don't be too concerned that there was an accident and subsequent cover-up.

I concur. Civics are not well assembled. The paint is probably factory. The mismatch is not uncommon. As for the tail lights, that isn't uncommon either but it is an easy fix. Almost any moderate polish will fix that.

Well i will suggest you that you should make some graphic work on your car instead of use paint colors. The benefits of using wrapping is that it covers all the scratches and also give a cool look to our cars.
