Hey everyone, I wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been a detailing nut ever since my first car and I have also been custom painting since then also. I recently been wanting to bring my detailing to the next level of quality.

After all my work I will wet sand, buff, polish, and glaze (all 3m) with my Dewalt buffer and foam pads (white, black, and blue). I've noticed that almost everyone uses a smaller polisher like the PC.

I recently started to clean up my car that I bought very cheap to drive to work and back. Its a 97, black, and in very bad condition. :chuckle: I've been just doing my usual sand, buff, polish to it one panel at a time and it's been working out pretty good.

I was thinking about getting a PC, but if the buffer I have now works, do I really need it to detail factory clear?

I've been searching the site a lot and it seems to be a very informative site with a good group of people. Thanks

Matt

What sort of buffer is it? If it is a rotary, you probably dont need to step down to a PC. do you have a model number for us?

Welcome Matt. I agree with craigdt, you don't necessarily NEED a PC. A lot of people (myself included) like to use the PC for the final polishing step and then go directly to a sealant and apply that with the PC. I think most people skip the true glaze part as it seems to compromise the durabilty of some of the newer sealants.

My only concern is you might be filling in swirls with the glaze. Have you tried using a halogen light and using Isopropyl alcohol to do a wipedown? That will usually remove any fillers and show you what is really going on. If at that point you aren't happy with the finish and still see some minor buffer swirls, the PC might help you out.

After searching this site and soaking info up like a sponge, I know now that I have a rotary (I just always called it a High speed buffer lol) That's all I've ever used for the past 10 years or so.

I think I'm still going to get a PC, I'm sure it's a lot easier to use on headlights lol.

Also, I think I'm going to get some Megs 105 and 205 today and try that out. My car is swirl city with clearcoat over spray (that's the only car I don't move out of the drive way when I clear lol) and scratches up the wazoo.

My fender now looks better than it did from the factory, but I wet sanded it flat ;) Orange peel is the enemy :)

I'll post pics in the before and after when I'm done. Thanks again guys
