First off, Im fairly new to the detailing scene. I just got a new car a month ago, up until now i didnt have something worth detailing. I have always done everything by hand with store-bought products before, but i wanna get into machine polishing. Of course im looking on buying the porter cable so i dont destroy my paint. My question is what kind of products should i buy? My car is an 06 bright red cobalt SS it has some fairly light scratches(careless washing) that i would like to get out and i just really want it to pop! I just dont know what stuff to buy/ steps to take. YOu guys are the pros and i need your help to get my car dripping wet looking. I just dont want a really abrasive polish that is gonna cause more scratches.





P.S. i was thinking on red moose machine glaze but i really dont know
 
Firstly, are you looking for durability, wetness, reflectivity, glow? Your choice of a Last Step Product will affect these characteristics. The ones that are strong in 1 or 2 of these traits generally lack in the others. What are you willing to compromise for the look you want?



Secondly, the preparation of the paint will define how well your LSP performs.



Thirdly, RMG will not correct your light swirls, it's a glaze that will deepen and enhance your paint's richness when applied under a wax or sealant. You will need a fine polish for that, probably an abrasive one. There are MANY choices to choose from as well as choices for pads. Please visit some of the site sponsors or popular vendors that patrol these waters. May I suggest Propel 2, Meguiar's, and Lake Country pads...all are roughly in the 6-6.5" size and all perform excellently. As for a fine polish, some of the forum's favorites include, Menzerna Final Polish II, Optimum Car Polish, Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze, and Poorboy's SSR1. All have different working characteristics, but should serve your purpose. Do a search and you'll find a wealth of information dwarfing what I've just mentioned.
