I'm gauging the logistics of starting something up full-time--I currently detail part-time from about late-March to November and then I'm stuck with the winter. :(

What do the mobile guys do during the winter???

i am in Chicago area and during those cold months i go completely crazy. lmao. i am not mobile and only detail in spare time but the bad weather months i use to do research and keep up to date on new products and stuff and try to make connections

advertise specials on interior cleanings? when it snows, it salts, that builds up in cars... you can really pushy heavy on that, run a special and people will call...believe me. When we first opened we plowed during the winter... shop stays full now a days. People also pay more attention and appreciate your product usage and attention to detail more and since windows arent opened during the winter the smell matters and dust doesnt gather. ;)

Winter weather causes a slow down in business. I think if you find any detailer (on here or otherwise) that has a different experience, then they are very much the exception to the rule. Just like a car wash, your real money is made during the summer months, and during the winter you do everything you can just to make it through and pay your bills and get to that next summer.

Thanks for all of the input, gentlemen. I appreciate it. :)

Weighing the benefits of having a mostly-unused rented garage space in the summer (during mobile season) vs. the hope that it will stay in the black in the winter. Lots to consider.

I am in the same boat... detailing is a paying hobby for me. I am a full time firefighter and work 2 other per diem jobs and start detailing in the spring... usually starting in April through November, but sometimes earlier if the weather warms up.
