New Christmas stuff on Mazda silver

No befores, the paint had mild swirls and some micro marring. Mostly wanted to try out my new Christmas stuff :grinno: .

Procedure:

Cleaned car with ONR (Optimum No Rinse)

Clayed with Blackfire Poly Clay. Did not think I needed to clay, but I was very wrong. I hated the texture of the clay (very stiff, no elasticity) but it cleaned the car up very well. Used ONR at the clay dilution to lubricate, worked out great.

Started out with Blackfire Finishing Polish (106FF) and white LCC CCS 4" pads. Didn't remove but about 50% of the defects so went to Propel 2 green 4" pads and the new Optimum polish with the Cyclo. This combination was super effective and a pleasure to work with. I loved it.

Pulled out the PC and Propel 2 blue 6" finishing pad and applied Danase speed glaze. Loved the smell, could not see a lot of difference probably due to the silver colored paint.

Finished with an applicaton of 4 Star UPP which was hand applied using a Meguiar foam pad. Went on with little effort.

Some closeups with the sun, the bright light fried my exposure meter so the pictures are a little dark.

Sludge- Looks like you found some winning products for that paint. Interesting that the OCP worked so well, I have't tried my OCP on my (silver) MPV yet.

Which pads did you use for the OCP/Cyclo work?

Oh, and your pics didn't turn out that bad...last time I forgot to exposure-compensate pics of my MPV they turned out at least as dark as your first one did.

Accumulator:

I used the Propel 2 green pads. Worked each area (2' by 2') for 4 or 5 minutes. Did the whole car with only one set of pads.

Ah, OK, gotcha. Yeah, OCP has a good long work time all right. Good job judging the right amount of polish to use, that "one set of pads" got my attention.

See how you like the UPP on it. I love UPP on my S8 but use KSG on the MPV just for the durability (which I can't seem to equal using UPP, which sure looks nice though). Wonder how your UPP will hold up to the ONR washes...

Accumulator:

Will make a honest effort not to top the UPP and see how long it lasts. I have not used anything but ONR since February. I have a house, hose and no water restrictions, but like the ecological aspect of using ONR and the ease of use.

Thanks Scottwax,

I borrowed the green Propel 2 pads + new Optimum polish combo from a few of your posts. Worked like a charm. Most fun I've had polishing yet.

I've found the UPP's slickness drops off a little quickly (but then that's with *my* wash regimen) so I end up either spritzing it with UGE or FK425 after the wash or, more frequently, putting on another coat of UPP. See what happens....I shy away from topping the UPP as its slickness is one of the characteristics that I value most.
