New Cars

I don't know if this has been addressed but I was thinking about it the other day as I was waiting on a train to go by. Has anyone ever gotten a car that has spray paint over spray on it. Let me explain... watching the cars go by I noticed that 90% of the car hauling ones had a signifigant amount of graffiti (sp?) on it. One even had the entire side graffitied. Has anyone encountered this? I know most cars come with rail dust due to the trains but I didn't know if anyone had spray paint on their new vehicles.

people sprayed paint ON the NEW car? i've never seen that. that would basically require a repaint i think. either way, alot of money is lost.

I think he may be talking about a bit of overspray hitting the vehicle while they were "tagging" the railroad cars. In either case, I have not seen or heard of this ever happening.

Yes the tagging is what I am referring to. The rail cars are perforated. I saw one where the ENTIRE side of the car had been tagged with someones name. There was not one inch that wasn't painted over.

Rough.
I do know that a lot of new cars get some paint, more than any of the dealers are comfortable with, even though they bill the company.

I think the taggers usually do their "work" on box cars that sit on the rail yard while they wait to be hooked up and loaded. I don't think they would risk letting the new cars sit at a rail yard.

Exactly my thoughts on this. I am certain that when the box cars are loaded with cars they do not sit long enough for someone to paint that much. Also most of the cars are covered in plastic as well so I am willing to bet that is part of the reason they cover them in plastic.

Most new cars are shipped with some kind of coating to prevent rail dust, so when they wash or peel the coating off the overspray comes off.
