My wife is getting a new car and i just got a 2002 yukon xl
being that mine is used, how soon before you wax it?
And my wife's car being new, how soon before to wax it?

You can wax it anytime you want.
Be sure to prep you surface, just because itis a new car doesn't mean that the paint is free from contaminents, so be sure to clay it and polish if necessary before you apply your LSP.

Congrats on the new car :beer_smil

jaybs is correct by saying you can wax them whenever you want but make sure to clay and polish the paint before waxing. Prep is the key and not the wax for a great shine and protection.

what is clay/ i know what clay is but on a car i never heard of it. i guess i joined the right forum. And being a newbie, is there a dictionary for all your
abbreviations that u guys use

you guys have been great with the information.
my new "used" car paint is beige i have been all around it. it has a couple of tiny nicks, but nothing major. So you would recommend claying no matter what the condition of the car's paint. I have a yukon xl.So how much clay would i use for that and where can i find the clay kit. And how often do you clay? I don't do detailing for a living, but getting these cars i promised myself to do a better job thatn i did in the past. It's becoming a hobby to me. I appreciate all the professional tips!!!

im sure u can use one bar of clay and be set for a couple more uses. claying is simple. paint cleaning is simple. waxing is simple. its all simple. (exception with paint correction).

only thing about detailing is that it takes its time. so whenever u plan on giving the car a good treatment plan, have u're whole morning+afternoon free. very quickly u'll learn how much better u're car will look and the obsession will begin from there. u can only get better from here.
