New Car...suggestions?

Hi all ! I just picked up my clearcoat black 03' mustang GT the other day and have a few questions. First off, this car is not my daily driver. Ok, would you all recommend doing a poish and wax right off the start? Also, can you recommend a good spray on product to keep it's show room shine? I know about zaino, but wasn't sure I would need it being the car is brand new.

One more thing, should I condition the leather or just leave it be for now.

Thanks

:welcome

Did the dealer prep it for you ?

Do you have any products on hand ?

Being as summer is right around the corner, you should do some sort of protection, immediately....

I would suggest a light polish, and a coat or two of polymer....Personally, I would go with either Platinum or BF II, for me, I'd give the edge to BF II, some will say theres no difference.....BF tends to attract dust, but with a Carnauba topper, such as S100, (easy to use, and leaves no white res.)that problem is eliminated...Black is very fickle as you will soon find out....

Get your hands on some (IMO) Clearkote Quickshine to maintain that between washes and waxes shine...Stuff is very very good....

Good luck, a friend of mine owns a black 98 Cobra, and totally loves it....:xyxthumbs

Thanks for responding. Yes the dealer did prep it, it beads water great. I'm not getting my daily driver until next week so I should have some time to get the right supplies first.

Ok, so what's the BFII? I have heard good things about the S100 so I planned that as my topper/wax. I will be doing it by hand, that won't be a problem will it? I just don't want to leave any residue/scratches.

Thanks

S100 rules, just doesnt last very long.

Available for the princely sum of $14 from your nearest HD dealership.

BUT!

The beauty of UPP is you can apply S100 over the top, so getting the best o both worlds.

Ha, ok ok....what does UPP and HD mean? Sorry guys, is there a abbreviation page I can learn all of this short hand in? I take it that UPP is a polish, being you but it on first...correct?

I appreciate you humoring me here.

Stl_GT- Welcome to Autopia. When Patrick says that Blackfire ("BF" or "BFII") can be fickle, he means that some people, like me, find it can be a bit "smeary" after the initial application. This is NOT bad enough to be considered a "residue" and goes away after a wash and/or after a wax topper. Platinum is similar to the Blackfire without the smearing issue.

And I myself wouldn't worry about conditioning the leather RIGHT away unless it's gonna be out in the sun for hours at a time. But do it sooner rather than later to help it break in nicely (you might be able to avoid some creases, etc.).

I would recommend a claybar / rewash before polishing, etc. The claybar will remove any foreign material on the surface - things like rail dust (your car was most likely shipped by rail at some point) and brake dust - both of which are basically little bits of sharp metal, and not good for your paint.

Thanks guys ! I am putting together a to buy list, I will post it and let you all give the once over when I get it done.

Thanks again!
