Well its been a long time since I posted, as I had pretty much got my last car as good as it was going to get and kept it up pretty well.

Out with the old in with the new 2006 San Remo Red Subaru WRX. Complete with dealer installed swirls.

I have both a PC and a Cyclo and I have never been successful with full blown swirl removal, I've read, I've watched, and I think unless I can find a beater, or someone to show me in person I might not ever get that good at it(anyone near NW florida?). So I'm looking for some help with the new car to get it as good looking as I can with what I have knowledge and skill wise. Can you guys suggest something for the red? its my first red car, and likely to be my last lol, it looks great but man its hard to keep clean. I was thinking of going with autoglym SRP because it seems to fill pretty well, and not sure what to top it with. I have a feeling the paint is single stage or clear/paint mix, though I can't confirm this.

Look forward to your advice.

ok all subaru paint now is a clean on base coat. on that red i would like to see Liquid Soverion. For swirl removal it's hard to say. i'd have to see but with out getting out the big guns(ht extream cut which i don't think you need) there is menzernia, and poorboys,CG and on and on.. what do you have already.. you might beable to get meg's 83 local...

MY last Subie was a '02 WRX and you might have different paint, but that one wasn't all *that* hard to get nice.

Your car has presumably never been polished, so your clear oughta be pretty thick (even if they do put thin paint on the WRXs). So I'd go ahead and get fairly aggressive. From the sound of it (the SRP reference), it sounds like you don't mind doing a little concealing. So, taking all that into account and reading between the lines etc. etc.....I come up with:

Get some aggressive products and some orange light cut pads (and maybe even some yellow cutting pads) in 4". You can use them on both the Cyclo and the PC (the latter for small areas that need more oomph).

For the aggressive products I'd get:

H-T Extreme Cut Leveler (no, it's not *nearly* as harsh as it sounds, really!) and a can of 1Z Extra Polish. Mix a little of the 1z Extra with the H-T EC and it'll do correction for you. Work the product a good long time so it breaks down completely. This product combo is about as aggressive as you can get with the PC/Cyclo while still being nice and safe. More than one pass might be required, but it shouldn't be the "gee, this just doesn't get it..." experience you might've experienced in the past.

Follow with 1z Paint Polish on polishing pads. This will quite probably give you a better appearance than you ever got before so I don't think you'll need another, milder step. Yeah, some of it will be "fillers" but not much, and it'll look very good for a long, long time if you use a long-lasting LSP (I'd recommend Collinite wax).

Everybody has their favorites, and I could come up with at least six other approaches that would also ve viable. But the above oughta do a good job with minimal frustration. Other than initial passes with the rotary, I used the above on my beater-Blazer; it worked out very well. Since I doubt you need the rotary step (your new Subaru had better be a *lot* nicer than my Blazer was ;) ), I'm pretty confident that it'd work well for you too.

I have the whole pinnacle XMT line, every color pad, sonus swirl buster polish and pad, klasse twins, nxt, color x, UPP, things of that nature.

What I'm really hoping to do is just get some protection on it and when it warms up go to town on the swirls, so I was hoping that the SRP would relieve some of the eye sore, and hopefully I can put something on top to stretch out the protection time.

Also I can't seem to find SRP in very many places any ideas?

I think my problem with swirl removal is product work time, I just don't visually no what its supposed to look like and I think I'm giving up to early, or maybe to late, last time I tried it even with light products and pads it seemed like I made it worse :(

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

YOUR IN NORTHERN FLORDIA.... LOL

how much warmer does it have to get????

if your looking for the protection with mild swirlhiding.. with what you have i'd go

wash

clay

polish with polishing pad and NXT

and top with Upp

then top with Upp when needed till you want to change things up.

I'm in Sarasota if you are ever down this way I could show you a thing or two. Good luck with the new car, you're very lucky I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
