New Car 3 Months Old

Hi everyone,



I have had my new car (2006 Black Volvo S40) for about 2 months now. I am planning to give it a nice car wash. However, I wanted to know what steps I should do? Do I need to polish or paint clean my car? From what it seems like, all I need to do right now is to just wash and wax since the car is still pretty new. The car still looks really nice out the outside and there are dirt on the car now, but not enough dirt to make the black car look really dirty yet. What are your guys suggestions?

Wash the car using a two bucket method and multiple wash mitts.



Use a clay bar. Even new cars need claying.



Wax with your favorite wax.

I'd second that clay bar. My g/f is leasing a Legacy and I clayed the whole car before sealing and waxing to help battle the road salts. I wish I had taken before and after pics but I figured that I could do it again come spring time. Of course before winter was over a pickup scraped/dented both the driver's side doors and the rear quarter which is now starting to rust :mad: .
 
Thanks for the help. When you mean clay, do you mean clay the whole car or just the sections that I think/see need claying? Also, I read that I can clay with just the car shampoo, do I just clay with the shampoo on the car or do I clay after I wash off the shampoo when the car is still wet?
 
Clay the entire car since factory paint it really never smooth coming off the line. Pick up a Meguiars Claying Kit from Advanced Auto Parts or the like along with an extra bottle of Quick Detailer so you won't run out.

wash and rinse the car.



take a wash mitt, dunk it into your soap bucket, let the soapy water drip all over the panel you're going to clay, clay until your heart is content (or your soapy water runs off!), rinse everything off, move to the next panel.
